Books!

well, it's been awhile, i know you've missed this. it's summer and the book endeavor is BACK!

last summer i read 17 books on my list.

during the school year i read, but didn't review (damn, i should go back and do that), 5:

the Agamemnon, Lysistrata, the Medea, Day of the Locust and Miss Lonelyhearts.

i still have a ton to go, but i'm aiming for at least 10 books this summer. i'll be continuing work on my thesis, so i will be reading about british trade all summer, but...we'll see.

i'd absolutely love to bang out all the ancient classic that i, as a classics major (oooh, look at my appositive), should have read. i have a really great prose translation of the aeneid in the car, and one of the best poetry translations of the odyssey. then there are all the plays: i don't know how many i have left on here, but they're easy reads, so that's a reasonable goal.

i'd also like to broaden my horizons again and read something that i'd never pick up on my own. i did that with things like "rubyfruit jungle" and "miss lonelyhearts" and was pleasantly surprised.

oh, i also found "the fountainhead" while i was cleaning my room, which was supposed to be my next book, but i lost track of my mission.

The following is a horrendous idea: while i was cleaning my room, i ALSO found two books of a trilogy that at the time of purchase, i thought i would love. they've been sitting there for years. Naguib Mafouz' Cairo Trilogy. Originally in Arabic, set in egypt, award winning...i should be able to do it, but i've just never read them. reading those two is a horrible idea because they aren't on my damned list. We'll see.
