It's -10C in the garage right now. So this seems like a good place to start my wintertime car projects, and sort out what I need to do.
1990 Subaru Legacy
This is my 1990 Subaru Legacy L, "Hiro". Hiro needs a new horn. Someone nearly sideswiped me tonight on the way home, and the horn went "bleeeeeet" like a dying sheep. So that inspired me to start this post. I have a new horn. What will it take to install it?
Yes, I know it needs a good washing, too. But it's too cold for that now.
Old Horn
This is the old horn, in situ. There are actually two horns, and they mount forward of the battery. This is also where I will need to wire the new equipment to the factory wiring.
Horn, Extracted
This is the other old horn, extracted and sitting atop the shop manual.
Air Horn
And this is the new horn that I intend to install. A pair of 3", 135+db air horns. High tone horn is 6 3/8ths" and the low tone is 8.5" long.
Horn Install diagram
Here's the page from the instructions that shows the proper way to wire the new horn into my car. Simple!
I should take a photo of where the horns will actually mount, which is on the other side of the engine compartment. Before I continue, I need to find some electrical wire. I may have the right stuff in one of my toolboxes. And it is likely that this is as far as the project will progress tonight.
