Life, death, the failure of the education system

I'm laying in bed thinking about death, (I guess its part of the grieving process) and I start to wonder about the legal issues of my death. If they do hundreds of thousands of ddollars worth of treatment trying to stop it, like if I get cancer or something and I still die, will that become a huge pile of debt that my wife is responsible for? I have long wondered about this very question. I think when kids are in high school (junior year, maybe?) they should have a year long class about life skills, like what an amortized mortgage means, how to understand tax laws, how to choose an insurance plan, etc. Though the American economy probably depends on people NOT understanding those things to some extent....
