so last night at work, a young couple came in from the cold. they told me their car had broken down up the road, and they had hiked in the freezing weather all the way to the hotel, and wanted to use the phone, etc... none of their friends from the college could come get them because apparently by 9 p.m. on a friday they were all already drunk. that's college kids for you, right?
so i suggested that they give the local police a call. serve and protect right? i heard the guy on the phone, explaining their situation and the words "so the only option we have is to walk from the hampton to the campus in 20 degree weather? ok. thanks officer" just to clarify, the campus is a good solid 2 miles at least away from the hampton. i find this evil, and very very aggravating.
i don't understand how they couldn't send a car over to help them out? for them to walk in the dark several miles along a road with no sidewalks in below freezing temperatures is freaking disgusting and completely unacceptable. argh. in the end they ended up getting a hold of someone who was "fairly sober" to come get them, but nonetheless. it made me angry to think that the police can sit on their fat asses and catch speeders for doing 7 miles over, but they won't help people out.
serve and protect my ass. and they wonder why we don't respect them.
