When I was little, I collected unicorns.

I don't myself remember the genesis of this collection; my earliest memories surrounding it are of looking for the statues at my father's tobacco store and having to be really, really careful when I dusted them, because many were made of glass.

That lucid dreaming thing is neat! I have what I call semi-lucid dreaming, although I've never heard it described. Basically the more nightmarish a dream gets the more I put distance between me and whatever bad stuff is in it, which of course tries to follow me, so I put more distance. I have a sense of the dream telescoping. The longer this goes on, the more I stress, so eventually I wake up if it gets too bad.

It is fun! I can still do something related. . . not in my first hard sleep of the night, but if I've been woken up by something at a point in my sleep cycle where I was in the middle of a dream I can force myself back into the dream. . . but at that point while I'm not really conscious of the dream being a dream I can still shape it how I like.

I haven't had a nightmare in years, so I don't know if that part still applies. . .
