Broken but not beaten

I can honestly say that being in paramedic school is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

I have no life anymore. My days (and nights) are spent working, going to clinicals or going to school. Or sleeping. I try to sleep whenever I can.

It doesn't always work.

24 hour shifts are the worst idea ever in Cobb county. Our call volume is so high that I maybe get an hour of sleep any given shift. 20 calls a shift is the norm. I hate it. And then some days I go straight from being awake 24 + hours to do a 12 hour clinical on an ambulance or in an ER...without any pay. Clinicals in medic school is excuse to make us be free labor. I'm not learning anything on clinicals....just biding my time.

I know I sound super negative but I finally broke at work yesterday. I got sick. Crying on the toilet bowl in my station.

Not my finest moment.

I slept for six hours when I got home. I skipped my clinical tonight (technically it was canceled but I wasn't going anyways).

I needed the break. I needed time in which I wasn't neck deep in medical facts.

I spent time with my boys. I watched bad television on Netflix. I spent two hours looking at a site about 80s and 90s nostalgia. I downloaded some new music.

I haven't touched my schoolbooks.

I go back to school tomorrow. I'm hoping this mini break will allow me to continue being an A student.

Good thoughts please?
