I've just gotten SO pissed with my current job, that I'm venting online. I don't even care that its public. Fuck you Rite Aid. Fuck you.
I've been working there since the start of september, and I'm already so fed up with the BS here that it makes me sick, and I no longer have the SLIGHTEST MOTIVATION TO WORK HARD. This time, I'm there for the paycheck. Not to be confused with the RA I worked at in NY, because those people had some sense of intelligence and consideration that does NOT EXIST OUT HERE! No wonder its all fucking gone Union.
So. Lets get this party STARTEDDDD!!!!
1. Chickenshit Management.- Managers and supervisors apparently aren't hired for their intelligence, hard working ability, care of subordinates or common sense, but for their ability to give blowjobs. When told "I can give you 25 hours at most per week." you should then expect to work 40, every week, on a random schedule, with call-ins, and 8 (read 9) hour days. If someone calls in sick on an important day, rather than call someone in to cover for them, managers wait till the next day, declare a corporate emergency, and tell all workers to come in the following day (2 after the original) at an earlier time than scheduled. I was asked to come in at 4 AM, when I'm scheduled for 7, and others have gotten similar requests. If these people call in on truck night, their loads are left to clutter up the back room, which is already filled to overflowing with other crap. Managers will also assign duties to workers, with very little instruction or direction, and then proceed to belittle and berate the worker, often nagging for no reason whatever. To top it all off, Managers are nowhere to be found when heavy lifting, hard work, and dirty work is to be done. More than 5 sheets a paper apparently merits a lower pay-grade.
2.Corporate Administration - This one is just about stupid directives. When you have your staff working mostly 40 Hrs a week, and 8 Hrs a day, and there aren't enough people to actually do any job, let alone handle customers, does it make any sense to then communicate "NO OVERTIME! Workers who accumulate overtime will be given a written citation, and a warning." with subsequent "warnings" to equal a termination ? I also love how a District manager will say merchandise should be one way, the store manager will disagree, and have you set it up differently, only to have the Asst. Manager then have you re-do the whole thing for some brown-nosing points.
3.Scheduling In-fucking-competence.- I briefly touched upon this under 1 and 2, but here's the entire enchilada. Lets say it takes 3 people to man the checkout, and get all the lines handled, do photo, and at least 1 manager as well. And for duties in the back, or moving merchandise, or heavy stuff upstairs and down, you need 2. Well, you and I know that equates to 5 worker bees, and 2 managers to be comfortably even. Here's what will happen. 2 people will have registers, 1 manager will be on, and 1 person will be told to do something of an administrative issue (inventorying, or sorting, something anyone could do) without being given a register, and another person will be told to do heavy sorting and lifting farthest from the front, AND given a register. This happens to me regularly, and I get bitched at for not finishing my work. Here's the reality: If I'm called to the front, help there, and get back to my work, I'm not even back to my location before I'm called again. Lesson to be learned: DONT PUT SOMEONE ON A REGISTER AND EXPECT WORK TO GET DONE! SHIT HEADS!!!
Additionally, with a random schedule, and a skeleton crew, how does it help, if 3 or even 4 times a week, a manager asks you to come in earlier the next day, ten minutes before you leave? I wonder, could any of you guys plan out the rest of a day/week with that crap going on? I expect not, so, to this, I say SCHEDULE MORE PEOPLE IF YOU NEED THEM! DON'T JUST OVERLOAD ONE OR TWO!
4. Stores are not Warehouses. - This is really directed at the warehouses themselves, but also district management, because they don't have much in the way of brains either. Let's say your shelf will hold 4 packets of ramen noodles, and ramen noodles will go on sale in a week. The DM says "Send ramen noodles" and the warehouse sends you 120 packets of ramen noodles. So, you fill up the location, give it some shelves for the duration of the sale, and maybe get out about 40. What bout the other 76? They sit in the back room, collecting dust for several weeks if not months, because there IS NO ROOM FOR THEM, AND THEY DO NOT SELL WHEN NOT ON SALE! Rite Aid stores are there to SELL things. Unfortunately, they now double as mini-warehouses, and HOLD merchandise for months on end, with no-where to put it, because there's now so much christmas stock, that the entire upstairs room is FILLED with it, and the downstairs is getting full JUST with truck. Walking space anyone? forget it, not going to happen. GET WHAT YOU CAN SELL, NOT WHAT YOU CAN HOLD.
5. Specialty in Nothing. - This is a worker issue. In the whole of my store, one person knows how to use the photo equipment. ONE PERSON, out of about 15-18. What do the rest do? Call her, or say its not working. Anyone see a pattern here?
And one person knows how to do inventory, and one can do price changes, and one can run the truck crew (thaaaaaaat's ME!) and one can handle seasonal, and one can...blah, blah, blah.
We are ALL supposed to be able to do ANY of the above jobs, but it gets dumped on one person, ALL THE TIME.
Which leads to the big problem. What happens when that person ain't there? I refer you to 1 and 3 above. Rather than call someone in to work on the slack, they WAIT A DAY and then tell other people to haul ass in early, and bitch at them for not getting work that ISNT THEIRS done! Stupid! ABSOLUTELY STUPID.
Bottom line, RA is one of the stupidest and most poorly managed companies I think I've heard of. I sincerely hope they get bought out by Target, Walgreens, or another corporate entity, and restructured from the ground up.
And I'd start taking bets, as to when I submit my two weeks, because I'm VERY tempted.
Have a GREAT day!
