General Update

Oct 03, 2008 17:30

I keep meaning to update this, but then I remind myself of some assignment or other that I should be attempting instead, and then by the time I have a minute I've forgotten what I'm going to write.

First of all, chemistry needs to go die. Now. I just spent three hours doing titrations until I had two identical-looking erlenmeyer flasks of a charmingly pale rose color...then, with three minutes left to go in class, I performed the required uncertainty calculations...only to find that the molarity I had found for the original solution through one of the titrations was 0.0005 off the range of uncertainty I had calculated using the other.

The resulting general feeling of apathetic dejection might explain how I somehow managed to let my ID card fall out of my pocket on the walk back to the dorm...thankfully, I found an e-mail from public safety saying they'd found it about ten minutes later.

On a brighter note, though, yesterday was Thursday...and that means DISNEY MOVIE NIGHT, which has totally become the highlight of my week. I mean, Mulan + PJs and blankets + outdoors + free hot chocolate and popcorn+ friends? You. Can't. Beat. That.

Tonight should be fun, too...an OA reunion over dinner, followed by a direct mailing "party" for TriBiz (The Triangle business team), followed by the first ever Sweet Suite Sleepover, which my seven roommates and I are holding in honor of our awesome new rug. Two of my roommates borrowed a couple of movies today, we have oodles of snacks, and a couple of us have been known to get pretty silly past 2 AM...good times, good times. Very unproductive times, but I'm excited :) Yay bonding!

Oh, and in news that that the people who read this might actually care about...only ten days and change until Mistborn 3! The third sample chapter has gotten me pretty pumped...if you really care about my take on it, then check out giallarhorn's recent post, "Audient Silence", and its comments. In celebration (and to torture myself with anticipation a bit more, I suppose), I've changed my desktop background to a centered image of Hero of Ages surrounded by a lovely deep purple, and started subconsciously trying to link just about everything to Mistborn in some way or another...for instance, the tall, lanky, curly-blond-haired kid in my writing seminar? Totally an 18-year-old Kelsier in my head. No, there's no obvious personality connection (unfortunately), this observation stems solely from appearance...I'm apparently just that obsessed.

My most recent musical obsession, Blackmore's Night, however, doesn't lend itself too well to Mistborn comparisons- and believe me, I've tried. The best I can go for is the spirit of the song, or maybe a couple of lines here and there...

Well, I'll be damned/ Here comes your ghost again/ But that's not unusual.....

...Well you burst on the scene/ Already a legend/ The unwashed phenomenon/ The original vagabond...

-- "Diamonds and Rust" (I need to move on to a character that's still alive, don't I?)

Anyway, If you haven't heard of them, I strongly recommend you check them out- my current favorites are "Diamonds and Rust", "Spanish Nights", and "Cartouche", probably...but there are a ton of good ones!

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E78716F33370C132 <-- See? I did the leg work for you! Now, click "play all"...(you can ignore the videos....they're either distracting or generally pointless. In fact, I recommend minimizing the screen, getting up, and dancing, particularly to "Spanish Nights", "Under a Violet Moon", and "The Way to Mandaley")
