[Walks into the dining cart, studying the food.]

[Looks over briefly at the unfamiliar face. It seemed to her like a lot of people had shown up recently.]

Echo has never seen so much free food.

More seems to show up every day somehow.

Echo.. Is that your name?

That's weird.
[Is still a bit skeptical.]

Yes. Echo doesn't recognize you.

It's strange, but it's better than not eating, believe me.

My name is Maria Ross. Did you just arrive recently?

Very recently. But Echo doesn't plan to stay long.

Apparently, the conductor is an obstacle that must be removed. Is that right?

[Maria tilted her head a bit, then frowned.]

Excuse me? What do you mean by "removed"?

Echo was told she won't allow us to leave.

That means, to kill her, or otherwise remove her from power.
[Says so as if it's obvious]

I'm afraid I can't allow that.

I'm not sure if she even has the power to send us home, several of us do not want or cannot go home, and beyond any of that it is immoral and illegal to commit murder and I will not allow it.

A peaceful method would be fine too.
[...But probably more of a hassle.]
But Echo needs to return to Master Vincent.

Then it is best that you discuss it with the conductor.

I am sure there are several people here who feel they need to get home, but I am morally obligated to keep the peace here as long as I am aboard.

Why? Did you come here on purpose?

Reply

phoenix_soldier June 21 2009, 22:27:17 UTC
No, not on purpose, but I am grateful that I ended up here due to the circumstances where I'm from.

I may be trying to appear more 'civilian' than 'soldier' these days but it doesn't change the way I think.

Understood. Echo will respect you if you don't interfere with my negotiating.

As long as you do not attempt to harm anyone, I'll have no reason to step in.
