So let me just preface this by saying, for those of you who saw the FHOTD blog on the dairy farm this week and thought "there's no way I know anyone even an acquaintance who is capable of doing something like that"... i just had the rudest awakening of my life...
now picture this - Watched the video last night before going to bed, so lets hazard a guess at about 9pm.... woke up at 3:45 am got to work and was wondering where this lady who works for the previous thoroughbred trainer I worked for (I still work in the same barn but for my boyfriends dad right now instead) was... she had made NUMEROUS comments that she couldnt afford to take a day off because she had to pay rent so immediately red flags went off that SOMETHING had happened.... my first thought was since she had 3 rather, shall i say opinionated, stud colts in her care that she'd been injured... her name was no longer on the feed roster (this trainer posts EVERYTHING out in the open so its easy to see haha). So i asked one of the girls I work with what was up.. the look on her face was one of utter shock and she replied "you really don't want to know" (uh duh yeah I do... especially now!!)
a few turns later I caught up with her again and said "no really, wtf happened?".... her face paled and she told me that Lynn (the woman in question) took a fucking pitchfork to one of her horses back legs... and it was witnessed in its entirety by the jockey who catch rides for us... the poor horse got fucking SPEARED in the back right leg and she somehow by the grace of GOD missed the tendon but hit the major artery so it was apparently SPEWING blood everywhere and it was ABSOLUTE chaos. as to what led to this scene i have no bloody idea.. nor does anyone else... all we know is that we are SOOOO glad our jockey witnessed the ENTIRE thing (she thought he'd gone into the tackroom and she'd asked him if anyone else was coming/around... presumably to bring a horse out to walk) as he'd just snuck into the tackroom to drop something off and turned around and saw the entire thing. Because of that they got her racing license suspended so that she CANNOT work at another racetrack in Ontario (I'm hoping its more widespread than that but you just never know)
I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope for the sake of the poor guy(s) who own the horse that they manage to press charges on not only animal cruelty but for the, im sure, enormous vet bill that will result from this entire ordeal.
needless to say I was FUMING and absolutly STUNNED when I found out... fuck this lady last week cringed when I told her to rip the face off of one of the hotwalkers who had her horse because he'd taken the lead shank and beat the horse over the head and the next week she FUCKING STABS A HORSE!? ARGGGH
I realistically know these fucktards exist but I never thought I'd ever encounter one... yeah I've worked with people who don't understand how to be gentle with horses and yeah their rough and will undoubtedly cause problem horses down the line (I did my best to take "problem" horses and work with them so they were easier to manage on the shedrow.. sometimes it worked) but NEVER did I think I'd encounter people like THAT.
Sorry guys I really needed to rant. I know people on here will understand and share in my WTF-ness.. thankfully the horse is ok and even though he's not with my trainer I gave him a big pet on my way out this morning. Gotta show him we aren't all two-legged spearing machines right?
