The Nation reports that Congress may consider
cutting millions of dollars of White House funding in response to Vice President Dick Cheney's claims that the vice presidency is not part of the executive branch.
Because the vice president serves in the frequently ceremonial position of president of the Senate, Cheney's office now claims that he is a member of the legislative branch -- and thus unburdened by any responsibility to cooperate with the Archives.
Forget the fact that the Constitution clearly defines the vice presidency as an executive position. ...
"This amendment will ensure that the vice president's funding is consistent with his legal arguments," say Emanuel, a former aide to President Clinton who, like Cheney, has served in both the legislative and executive branches.
What color is the White House in Cheney's world, I wonder?
A judge who sued a family dry cleaner for $54 million will have to pay the defendant's court costs, according to an
Associated Press story.
The owners of Custom Cleaners did not violate the city's Consumer Protection Act by failing to live up to Roy L. Pearson's expectations of the "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sign that was once placed in the store window, District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Judith Bartnoff ruled.
There's one vote for common sense in the justice system ...
... and
six votes against, in a Supreme Court ruling that gives the War on Drugs precedence over high school students' free-speech rights.
"It was reasonable for (the principal) to conclude that the banner [which read "Bong Hits 4 Jesus"] promoted illegal drug use -- and that failing to act would send a powerful message to the students in her charge," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court's majority.
"Bong Hits 4 Jesus" promotes illegal drug use? What was Roberts smoking?
