That is true. Let me rephrase - It bugs me when people around me mispronounce words they should know better with ... I mean, words that are really obvious. Interpret/Interpretate being the main one that annoys me. It's not that it makes me sit there and go FUUUUU-, I've actually got a work mate who constantly mispronounces words, but it's almost endearing on her, rather than annoying, and it certainly doesn't annoy me when my lil sis does it. Again, endearing more than anything else. I think what I meant to say was that it just frustrates me when they're mispronounced, and if someone mispronounced something in an argument with me, I would no longer be able to take them seriously ... I guess I'm just a bit, I dunno, snobbish like that ^^; Ironically, there are often times when I'll say things wrong. My pronunciation of "a" constantly changes in words. Sometimes I sound English, and others I might sound American. Take "Dance" for instance, there are times when I'll say "Dahnce", and others when I'll say "Darnce" ... Does that make sense? XD The word that really did me in was Macabre though. I used to actually pronounce it as it's written, I only realised when someone told me that it's said "Macarb" XDDDDDD I do the same with Pterodactyl. I pronounced the "p" XDDD
So, what I think I'm trying to say is, I'm not a Nazi when it comes to pronunciation ... It just frustrates me when I hear people say basic words wrong ... Does that make sense? And for no good reason - If someone has to have speech therapy because they truly can't pronounce it, alright, fair enough.
... ... I'm suddenly feeling alot like I'm just pushing my foot further into my mouth here ^^;
I'm probably taking it personal, since well...I say interpret the way that annoys you. And there is some words I can't even say at all, so it's kinda a sensitive spot for me. Since I don't like thinking people write me off just because I have a hard time saying certain words. More so I know I'm saying them wrong, but it's hard to say them right no matter how hard I try. XD;
I do understand where you're coming from, since it's such simple words people SHOULD know how to say them right? I just don't think it's that easy, plus it goes in where you're from and accents.
But I do get where you're coming from somewhat, so don't worry. I don't think you put your foot in your mouth.
Gah. Forgive me if I upset you then Issues. Like I said, it's not that I actively diss people who do mispronounce, it just ... frustrates me somewhat? Though, again, it can be endearing with some people. More like a quirk than anything else. And, I do actually know alot of people who say "interpretate" instead of interpret ... I think that's what annoys me more than people saying it - how common it is. Almost like the actual word is being buried under ignorance?? ! That's it. That's what bugs me. Not so much when people mispronounce words - more when they mispronounce it and not realise they're saying it wrong. That ignorance. It just makes me despair for English as a language.
Again, forgive me if I hit a sensitive spot. It wasn't my intention to upset anyone - least of all you. I adore you *hugs* - It is just a little something that frustrates at times.
It's cool, bb. XD I wasn't that upset, I guess I just wanted to make sure you knew that there are people that can't help it, especially if not given the resources. I just something I've worried about if people thought I was stupid or ignorant if I don't say something the absolute right way.
You probably go crazy if you came to my area. A lot of words aren't said the right way, but doesn't make people ignorant or uneducated if they do, at least imo.
Though lol, English as a language has changed and grown so much. I mean I'm American, so that means my English is different from how you speak since you're Australian, or people who live in England. It's a very large and diverse language, and I woudln't despair if people don't pronounce right. Despair for people actually handing homework in that has textspeak in it! Now that is a problem in the English language haha, or people not being taught cursive writing anymore.
lol don't worry, it takes a lot to get me really upset. XD It's a sensitive spot since talking "right" has been something hard, my mom even held me back a year since I wasn't very good before I started school. And I didn't want you to think, if we ever got teh chance to talk IRL that I was some uneducated hick.
OMG. Loling at the teenagers who probably HAVE handed in homework with text-speak, it's even funnier when they actually use abbreviations IRL. I mean, can you imagine someone physically saying LOL? Or saying O-M-G? XD That moment when you can't decide if computers are the best thing invented, or one of the worst XDDDD
You are right with the diversity of the English language - I've always thought it interesting the way things change between countries. Like ... How it's Binder for you, but a Folder for me XD
... Probably not the reaction I should be having, but now I'm sitting here going: *o* Meeting Issues IRL? *squeeflail* XD
I remember my teachers in GRADE SCHOOL, like early thousands telling us not to do it. And that's when computers were just getting into regular households lol.
I hear people use the abbreviations on TV shows. smh
idk I use both "binder" and "folder" for stuff. XD;
lol well I used to do voice posts when I had a mic once. XD
LOL. Omg. I don't think I ever had that problem XDD
Ugh. That might explain why I don't watch many TV shows. I mean, the only ones I own (That aren't anime) are the Big Bang Theory, Sex and the City, and - only just got it - How I Met You Mother.
Errr. I dunno ... There needs to be some kind of line drawn between netspeak and RLspeak ... But then ... It's almost amusing using netspeak Irl ... I dunno~~~~ OTL
LOL. Well, there you go. There are others I've heard of ... But I can't recall any right now XD LAWL
