As you know, boyfriend dropped by on Thursday for my birthday and stayed the whole weekend. The weather forecast told of perfect fall weather, which naturally raised our desire to CLIMB ALL THE MOUNTAINS and SPEND ALL OF OUR TIME OUTDOORS. So that's pretty much what we did and today I'm exhausted, sore, bruised and battered (and not in the way you guys might think :D) and need time to recuperate from the weekend. This train of thought leads me to something else, probably way too much information, but whatever, have a cut
This need of ours to CLIMB ALL THE MOUNTAINS and SPEND ALL OF OUR TIME OUTDOORS seriously interferes with our desire to HAVE ALL THE SEX! It's a vicious circle, I'm telling you! If you've spent all day playing in the mountains, you're completely exhausted once you get home in the evening. It's terribly disconcerting to want to make the most of the little time we can spend in bed together but basically be too tired to do anything about it. I feel ancient :(
Alright, now that I've got that out of my system, let's move on.
On Saturday we decided to drive down to the Tegelberg near Neuschwanstein and climb the mountain using a via ferrata, basically a fixed rope route straight up the mountain. When we arrived, it was foggy and overcast in the valley. In the background you can see the wall we climbed.
However, the higher up we got, the more the fog lifted and we were soon above the clouds.
We went straight up there ...
... and after about 2.5 hours, were rewarded with a beautiful view from the top of Tegelberg.
On our way down, we noticed that the ever so famous castle Neuschwanstein was not only close by, but actually right next to the mountain we'd just climbed! It just hadn't been visible in the clouds that morning. So we were treated to some nice, cliché views far away from the tourist hustle.
On Sunday we went climbing at Brauneck, one of Munich's local mountains that offers a huge number of climbing routes in a very varied terrain. We took the gondola up to the top and were greeted by stunning views of the Alps.
After a short, 20 minute hike, we reached our first climbing destination for the day, where we wanted to try our very first multi-pitch tour. This area was perfect for this, as it offered a variety of not too difficult multi-pitch routes, well equipped with bolts and belay points. Another plus was the fact that we had the wall to ourselves, so there was no need to hurry or feel observed. We could just climb at our own speed, take our time to get the feel for belaying on route and concentrate on ourselves. It was perfect! After about two hours we were greeted by a beautiful view from the top.
After the first abseiling, a little mishap occurred, and we couldn't get the rope free. So boyfriend, ever the gentleman, had to climb up the last pitch again. Nothing major, the rope had just caught in a small rock crevice.
Once we had made it back to solid ground safely, we had a leisurely picnic, followed by a relocation to a different climbing site. There are so many beautiful sites up there, that we honestly had trouble choosing. At 5pm we took the last gondola down the mountain and drove back to Munich.
I'm pretty sure I found my new favorite climbing spot. And the fact that it's only 45 minutes from my home makes it all the more perfect.
All in all, it was a very exhausting, but wonderful weekend. I feel like I could sleep for weeks now.
