green fire

I've just remembered this. Last weekend, Justin and I went on a hike down to Feather Falls (which was awesome, but not the point of this story). While on the way there--it was about eight or nine in the morning and already full daylight--I was looking out the window of the car, listening to music, holding his hand while he drove. We were neither of us talking much. It was nice.

All of a sudden, he jumped and dropped my hand to point and made a wordless, awed sound. Something that looked like a shooting star arced down in the sky directly in front of our car, but it was huge and close and its fire was an unmistakable, brilliant green. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. When it reached the end of its trail it exploded into three sparks that blew off in all directions, and then they and the trail blazed and slowly faded away. Within fifteen seconds, it was like it had never been there at all.
