A/N : Just a piece of muse wandering around after watching Noragami--and skimming the manga afterward.

Yukine disliked winter. It's freezing, and when night came, it was darker, darker and colder, than non-winter times. And in winter, he died.

He didn't remember anything about the time before his death. Why did he die? Who was him before he died? What kind of life he led? He couldn't remember at all. All he could remember was dark and cold place after he died. It was cold and lonely, he remembered, and he was wandering alone on the street as a single soul with no place to go. It was a winter when he met Yato.

He was grateful that Yato revived him, of course. He is, now. But the first time, he was terrifying. When he was still a wandering soul, he only remembered darkness and loneliness, could only think--or maybe, since a soul was not capable of doing something which required physical part, he would name it feel--of where to go, how to survive (as a soul!), and why did this darkness was so intense and endless. Wandering was about feeling that abstrack feel of alienation. But when he was revived, he could feel pains, and emotions. It was like he's being alive again, unless there's no human could see him. On top of that he's also being tied to an underated God. He felt like a stray puppy who suddenly getting a tight collar that strapped him to his cage.

He was a stray puppy, yeah. A pathetic one. He should be glad Yato found him and named him, after all. Now he regretted all of those things he did to his master back then. He still is sorry.

"Now that I gave you a human name, live like a human, Yukine!"

That's why he tried so hard to get a job from Kikoku. Yato had given him a name, a new life, and new friends--even if that said friends consisted of half-youkai Hiyori, a Poverty God and her Regalia, and other creatures like them--he decided that he needed to be grateful and do as his master said: to live like a human. And of course--

"Yukineee~ I'm coooold~"

And of course, he needed a room so he won't spend the harsh winter curled up in some God's shrines like he used to with Yato.

"Then you should find some jobs so you could rent a room! Like me!"

"So mean!" whined Yato as he banged Yukine's window. "Is this how you treat your master, you ungrateful deliquent who smashed all school's windows and--"

"Stop it! I get it! Just come in!" cried Yukine. He jerked the window open, then retreated and shivered when the gust of wind blew into the room. "Hurry, it's so cold!"

Yato laughed and swung his body into the room, then closed the window as he was told. He crouched in the corner of the room and fold himself into a tight ball, shivering.

"Thanks, kiddo. I appreciate it," he said with a wink. "Tonight is sure colder than usual."

Yukine didn't answer. Instead, he just poured some tea into a cup and gave it to the unworshipped Calamity God. The fact that Yato never slept in Yukine's room, even when he actually could do just that, regarding his position as his master, stirred something in Yukine;s heart. Now, after he was cleansed from those ugly thoughts which corrupting him in his early day as a Regalia, he could see Yato's choice better. Yato never slept in his room, and preferred to wandering around shrine to shrine despite the harsh nights, was to give Yukine some piece of private, independent live and Yukine appreciated the sentiment. That's why what Yukine could do was just to let his master came in when he asked for it--although not without their usual banter, of course, that's just the way he interracted with the God.

"Grab the extra futon and sleep here tonight if you feel it's too cold outside," said Yukine. "But don't spread your futon near mine, you smell so bad I can't sleep peacefully around you."

"Ugh! That hurts!" Yato gave him a mocked-hurt expression, clenching his heart as he did so.

"Whatever." Yukine snorted. "Which stray picking up another stray, anyway?"

"We are both stray, dude, and strays stick together!" said Yato, grabbing Yukine's neck and strangled him in a one-armed hug. "That's the masculine code: How to Survive as an Independent Man 101!"

"More like "How to Survive as a Broke Man 101" to me," sneered Yukine. "But yeah."

At least he knew that even though he still disliked winter, and that he was revived by the another stray thug, he won't be wandering alone in the dark again now. And for that, he was grateful with this life he got.
