I had one (1) bottle of cider tonight - we went out after work to 'celebrate', cough, two of my colleagues having worked for the company for a whole ghastly year - and now all I really want to do is lie on the floor and watch the ceiling spin. But the carpet needs vacuuming in the worst way, so instead I shall fill in this meme that ngaio tagged me for about three weeks ago.
(Note to new people - new to me, I mean, not newborns, that would be silly, they can't read - I do occasionally post other things besides memes. Usually bad fan fiction, but that seems to be drying up so you may be spared that. However, in the middle of the work week, when there is nothing to say but 'got up. Went to work. Worked. Blah. Came home. Went to bed' ... not so much.)
1. Make a list of 5 things you can see.
A cup of redbush tea with my name on it (not literally), the computer monitor, the printer, lots of CDs, the ShadowCat.
2. Would you ever get plastic surgery?
It's not PC, I know, but god, yes. In fact, never mind faffing about with cosmetic surgery, just make a plastic Barbie body and transplant my brain into it. I can't sing, so there's no chance of my doing a Susan Boyle on the world, and your run-of-the-mill frumpy middle-aged ladies might as well pack it all in and call it a night.
3. Is there anything in your fridge right now that you would never eat/drink?
Yes, because a lot of it's Judy's. There's some sliced meat, just for a start, and some nasty-looking soup, some instant sauce-type thingies for stir-fries, the rhubarb I cooked yesterday, and there is also a thingy of insulin that wannabedolphin accidentally left behind the other weekend.
4. What's your occupation?
Good question. It was advertised as 'customer services bibliographer', but not a biblio have I graphed in the almost six months I've been there. I'm not much cop at the 'service' bit of it either.
5. Do you nap a lot?
Not so much 'nap' as 'sink into coma from which nothing short of the end of the world will rouse me'.
6. What was your first celebrity crush.
My first celebrity crush was so long ago that it would be meaningless to anyone but me. Actually, it's pretty much meaningless to me as well (I was about 3). The first one that might be recognisable to the rest of the world was Pete Duel from Alias Smith and Jones. Man, when he killed himself I cried for months.
7. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
Sports Night is still hanging in there - I was going to say, to a lesser extent than it used to, but I don't think that's it so much as that there isn't that much of a fandom any more, and it's hard to be fannish on your own. Dollhouse is a strong contender, but I don't know whether that'll last past the end of the show.
8. What are you listening to right now?
I have no idea, actually. It's one of the many things on the Windows media player that I don't know how it got on there. (The listing says 'unknown, track 6', which is no help at all.)
9. What was the last text message you received?
Sad as this may sound, it was so long ago that I don't remember.
10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
At home it's LJ and DW, Snarkfest and Twitter, with occasional forays into the Dragoncave; at work I check Google news first thing, then spend the day looking up books on Nielsen and Amazon, with a break to look at the BBC news site at lunchtime. Yes, I know, the excitement knows no bounds.
11. What was the last thing you bought?
Drinks for me and a colleague in the pub earlier.
12. Cutest thing you have seen today?
Ha. It's a lucky thing I decided to do this meme today - someone at work brought her itty-bitty baby in. He was pretty durn cute, it has to be admitted.
13. Does the weather affect your mood?
A little bit. I suspect I suffer from SAD, but, truthfully, I don't need the winter as an excuse to be miserable.
14. What is your zodiac sign?
Gemini. I'm in two minds about this ...
15. Name a song that makes you think about a ship/character that you like.
Tom Waits's Who Are You is my go-to Danny Rydell song - Are you still jumping out the window in expensive clothes?/Oh, I fell in love with your sailor's mouth, and your wounded eyes/Tell me, who are you this time?
16. Weird dream?
I never used to dream at all - that I remembered, I mean, allegedly everyone dreams every night - until I started taking antidepressants. Now I have all sorts of bizarre and freakish dreams. I often dream about a house that I instantly recognise, even though it's nowhere I've ever been. It has loads of corridors and hidden rooms. I'm sure it's all terribly Freudian.
17. When the world thinks you're paying attention, what are you secretly daydreaming about?
When I'm in writing mode, I have storylines running through my head all the time. When I'm not, all I'm really thinking about is going home, getting into bed and having a cuddle with the cats.
18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
"Can I have a new job, please?" (It doesn't much matter who I'm saying that to.)
19. What are your plans for next weekend?
No plans beyond watching the new Dollhouse episode. I just hope I manage to stay awake rather more than I did last weekend, when I blinked and missed Saturday.
20. Say something to the person who tagged you.
Hi, ngaio!
Goodness, what a very dull person I am, to be sure. I should do something to fix that, probably. But what??
Oh, update on #8: it's now Nick Cave putting his own unique interpretation on Tower of Song.
And I have drunk my tea, so I think I shall go and make some more.
