Title: Fruit from the Forbidden Tree
Characters: Casey, [Dan]
Prompt: LJ SN100 challenge #166, Green
Written: 15/06/2008
Casey's grandmother lived hard by an apple orchard and every summer Casey would climb the fence, shin up a tree, fill his pockets with half-ripe fruit, then sneak off to his secret hideaway to stuff his face until he turned green. When he got home his grandmother would take one look, dose him with something salty and vile, hold his head while he vomited, then send him upstairs supperless and with a swat across his backside. "Let that be a lesson!" she'd say.
Casey was a poor learner. When next year came around, he'd do exactly the same thing again.

Casey lies awake, sleepless and sore, his mouth burning with the bitter taste of salt. Tonight, for the first time, he's cheated on Lisa. The thought makes him sick. He's not that guy, never been that guy. He tried so hard to resist: turned his head, kept his distance. But he'd never stood a chance.
"We can't do this anymore," he'd whispered, knowing as he spoke it was a lie. Because Casey never learns from his mistakes. All he can think now is when will I see him? And when tomorrow comes around, he'll do exactly the same thing again.
