Long day yesterday.  Woke up at 9, thanks to J's nighttime shenanigans.  Meant to see a house at 10, but D had an appointment at 9:30 and was going to meet me there.  B and M were awake but still in bed, so I decided to leave them at home and cycle with J.

The house was...interesting.  The guy bought it nine months ago and has been fixing it up.  Turns out he's someone I know - he fixed up a house five minutes from us and I walked past it for a year and was able to get an idea of the quality of his work.  He turned that house into two smaller houses (there's no yard so wouldn't have really worked as a family house) and lived in one house till both were sold.  Then he bought another house nearby and fixed that up and now he lives there.  The original intention was to sell it and move into the current one, except that his wife just had a baby and wants to stay put.  So they're selling the third one instead.

EVERYTHING has been done to it.  Underfloor heating in the kitchen, rewiring throughout, dampproofing.  The whole house has been replastered - and *not* been covered in that awful wall liner.  It's painted white, but that can be fixed ;-)  The price seems a bit steep considering the kitchen is smaller (and doesn't work as well as the one we have - at least from my perspective).  And the yard, while the same size overall, is funny and doesn't work as well for me.  Part wooden decking, part grass, part covered carport from the rear.  Four bedrooms, plus a basement room that I'd love to use as a study but D wants as a playroom for the kids.

The house isn't listed with an agent - it's for sale by the owner, as were the others he's done.  I have a feeling we're going to go for it.  It's a two minute walk from the place we rented when we first moved here.  Less than 10 minutes on bikes to school.  And it's obviously in the right location for B to go to his first choice of secondary school.  He applies in exactly two months, so we'll have to move on it really fast if we want it.

Back home again and then out with M and J to pick up bread and see if the kids' vitamin D drops are finally in.  Wow, that was an exercise in annoyance!  I was told - after waiting a month! - that it would be in on Thursday.  They didn't have it ready for me and asked if I would mind waiting a few minutes.  A few turned into 15 and, as M was outside waiting with his bike, I told them I'd come back a different time

Back home for lunch and managed to get J to have a nap.  Then got a message from a friend whose baby turned one this week and who ordered a cake from me for today.  Cue panic - how could I have forgotten?  Supervised cookie baking with B and M.  Plotted dinner for five.

Dinner was pretty good.  Cake baking followed.  And then early bedtime for all ;-)

Wow, but M's voice is loud.  Trying to get used to that again.
