A/N: Back to Koki now~ And the formal introduction of a new character, and reference to another!

A peculiar hush filled the room and Koki wasn’t sure he felt very comfortable with it. When he’d barged in with the announcement of his possibly being promoted on his lips, he hadn’t exactly expected everyone to just go dead silent.
‘A promotion?’ Yuichi echoed, after some time, finally breaking the silence that had been bothering Koki so much. Though, Yuichi obvious tone of disbelief didn’t exactly help raise the mood any, either.
‘Don’t say it like that’, Koki complained, rather put off by Yuichi’s unmasked scepticism.
‘Well, I’m just saying’, Yuichi said, attempting to rationalise himself, ‘You can’t just storm in here with something like that, especially if you’re not going to explain yourself’
In his defence, Koki had most certainly planned to explain himself. In fact, he would have immediately proceeded to having done so had it not been for the unsettling silence with which his proclamation had been met. However, Koki suddenly realised that only 2 members of the team had even been in the room before he burst on in. Yuichi and Ryo.
Nishikido Ryo was in charge of the technical stuff, such as hacking into databases, gathering research, so on and so forth. As such, whenever Koki entered the meeting room, he often found Ryo sitting with his laptop (his proper desktop computer was in a different room, designated specifically for Ryo’s work), entirely engrossed in whatever graced the screen. So, really, in retrospect, the silence wasn’t as unsettling as Koki had initially decided. Ryo was often completely quiet until it suited him. No doubt he’d butt in Koki and Yuichi’s conversation somewhere along the lines.
‘At the very least, man, give me a chance, would ya?’ Koki groaned, scratching the nape of his neck, irritably, ‘I’ll admit, though, that it’s purely a rumour’
Yuichi raised an eyebrow, looking far from impressed with this information, ‘So, you’re telling me that you came in, acting all excited over something that you aren’t even sure is true?’
Koki folded his arms and retorted, indignantly, ‘I was hoping you’d be focussing on the possibilities, granted this is true, rather than picking holes in everything’
‘I’m just worried, all right? I don’t want you getting caught up in something like that if there’s a chance that things won’t go the way you planned’, Yuichi explained, with a frown - they keyword here being worried, typical Yuichi, ‘I would hate for you to get all distracted just cause you ended up being disappointed’
‘Come on, now, I’ll be fine’, Koki assured him, ‘I’m fully aware of how much bollocks this might very well be’
‘I sincerely hope so’

Clearly having had enough of that topic, Ryo decided it was now time for him to cut in, ‘All that aside, as potentially fantastic as it is, I’d like to point out that we got another email from Tegoshi. S’a little more important if you ask me’
Tegoshi Yuya - the journalist responsible for providing the group with the majority of their leads. Or, at least, the ones that would mean nothing to the police force. His job meant that he could easily get in deep and find out about all those issues frequently ignored by the legal authorities - the sort of stuff that, for the most part, affected the lower classes. He claimed to have contacts, whom he would pay cash in return for rumours and gossip.
‘Ah, good, what does it say, then?’ Yuichi asked. He always preferred these low-key cases since he didn’t have to spend the entire thing fretting about everyone losing their jobs. If the authorities weren’t going to turn a blind eye to these situations, things were considerably less risky on that front. Though, he was still too much of a coward to deal with the more hands-on aspects of said cases and preferred to stay as far from the frontline as possible, helping to conduct whatever actions the group planned to take.
There a few rapid mouse clicks with a following moment of dead silence from Ryo before he began to speak again, ‘In summary, we’ve got a couple of new cases to look at. This gang have been kidnapping whores to torture them, some drug dealer’s been scamming his customers and doing god-knows-what-shit to them when they can’t pay up, some gang member’s got a plot to brutally murder his ex-girlfriend...’
‘Wow, you couldn’t give us anything easy, could you?’ Yuichi sighed, ‘Don’t these cases all seem a little dangerous?’
Ryo shrugged, eyes still fixed on the screen, ‘Tegoshi can only give us what he gets, not much we can do past that’
Koki took a seat, silently agreeing with Yuichi points about these cases being difficult. The last one was easy enough. Just fuck the guy up and get him in a cell - he’s out of the way and his ex is free to live her life. The other two, however, will a little trickier. After all, getting involved in gang affairs was never a safe idea. That would probably be one of the cases Koki would have to pull the actual police force into - as ignorant as they could be to some cases, there was no way they could let something like this pass, right? That one was tricky, but, there was a possible way to deal with it. However, the drug dealer one seemed a little different. Drug dealers could be shady at the best of times and they knew how to stop themselves from getting tracked down.

Koki, quite suddenly, rose to his feet and turn to look at Ryo, ‘Nishikido, you email Tegoshi back and ask him go back to whoever gave him the lead on that drug dealer. Make sure he gets every last drop of information regarding the issue out of them reports them back to HQ’
Ryo gave a sharp nod, and began to furiously type out Koki’s orders. Yuichi stared at Koki, before enquiring about the other two cases. Koki assured him that he had plans for those, but, for now, he had this case as his personal top priority.
‘No complaints, just get to it, kay?’

Author's Notes
I know I promised a quicker update, but this chapter really didn't want to be written. I was hit with a sudden and extremely inconvenient case of Writer's Block. But, I'll probably get straight on with writing after this. I mean, if I can properly work out where I want to go with next chapter. There's definitely something important coming up, but I'm not so sure I want to jump straight to that. If anything, the next chapter will be purely Kame-orientated, but also pretty short. That, or I'll continue straight on with Koki. I don't know what's better.
Also, I apologise for this being mostly uneventful. Character development and all that...Um.
