Author Notes After about, what, one and a half months, maybe two months now...I finally updated! Forgive me >-<
‘Jeez, I told you already, I mean no harm’, Koki moaned, irritated by the thief’s violent action to what he believed was a totally kind and gentle act, ‘No need to bite me!’
The thief looked straight at Koki with piercing eyes, the same sharp glare he had given Koki the first night they had run into each other, ‘Fuck off’
‘You really think you’re helpin’ anything by reacting like that, hm?’ Koki snapped, rubbing his hand where the thief had so unjustly bit it, ‘Just trust me, would ya?’
The thief looked so utterly horrified in that one moment that Koki felt a little shaken himself, though he couldn’t entirely fathom why. The other man just looked so pitiful right now, still trembling even despite his clear attempts to look fierce. As soon as eye contact had been made between the two, though, the thief pulled himself away from Koki and settled himself into a space on the ground, not too far from where Koki was now squatting.
‘Trust you?’ the thief scoffed, the beginnings of a low and sarcastic laugh seeping through his words, ‘With you, a police officer, and me, a shop-lifting, drug-abusing prostitute who jus murdered omeone, what’s there for me to trust really?’
‘It wasn’t murder, it was self-defence’, Koki pointed out, not very helpfully.
‘So? The rest is still true, isn’t it?’
Koki hesitated but spoke in a soft voice, ‘I helped you before, didn’t I? Even though I knew you were a thief’
‘Wasn’t that pity? Pity for the poor boy who couldn’t afford to eat for the night’, the thief said, in a mock-dramatic tone, ‘He couldn’t afford to eat because he’d spent all his money on illegal substances, you know!’
Koki blinked, not sure quite how to respond to that, and surpressed the insatiable and uncomfortable urge to slap the other man.
‘You police, you’re all the same’, the thief went on, pointing a hateful finger at Koki, ‘You’re all a bunch of self-righteous bastards who seriously need to pull their heads out of their own arses and take a real look at the world around them, rather than creating their own ideas of how morals work!’
Considering how mute he had been just moments before, this guy had some mouth on him.
‘We’re not all the same-’, Koki tried to protest but the thief suddenly began to laugh.
‘You’re fucking with me, aren’t you?’ the thief gasped between giggles, ‘You don’t know how many of you guys I’ve had to deal with!’
Koki gritted his teeth and clenched his fists impatiently, taking a deep breath before suddenly cutting through the other man’s hysteria, ‘WOULD YOU JUST SHUT YOUR MOTH FOR FIVE FUCKING MINUTE AND LET ME TALK, OR, SO FUCKING HELP ME, I’LL-’
The thief had already stopped yet Koki only felt worse for it. The guy was just frightened, after all, wasn’t he? He wasn’t actually trying to mock Koki; that was obvious. All he was trying to do was distract himself from the fear. Koki inwardly cursed himself for not thinking properly.
‘I’m not like those guys, okay?’ Koki continued and, where he had been expecting some cocky-ass remark, the thief responded with a rather meagre nod, ‘I agree, the people you were talking about, they’re scum, the lot of them. And, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t help you entirely out of pity. There was moral reasoning, too. It was sympathy more than it was pity’
The thief raised an unconvinced eyebrow but let Koki go on, ‘I’m here off-duty, on a case that wasn’t picked up. And, why? Because I disagree with the system in the same way you seem to. This is a fucked-up world we’re living in, so, even if I have to work in the shadows, I want to try and right the wrongs of this society, little by little’
The thief still didn’t look so sure but it seemed like he was finally starting to take Koki seriously, which was something at least.
After an awkward moment’s silence, in which Kazuya found himself able to get his wits properly about him, the officer pulled himself to his feet and wiped himself down, as if clearing up some kind of casual decision with his son. It wouldn’t have been surprising if he had bent down and ruffled the other man’s hair. Kazuya stared up at the officer, trying to look as cool and collected as he could, taken that he was utterly and completely shaken right now. The officer rubbed the back of his neck irritably, stealing a quick glance at Kazuya who had made the decision to stand up as well, having finally concluded that sitting bare-naked on the tarmac was far from comfortable.
‘So, you gonna let me help ya?’ the officer asked through partly pursed lips.
Kazuya wiped a few stray stands of hair out of his eyes, gaze fixed firmly on his feet. Somehow, he didn’t have the energy to talk anymore, and he could feel his eyes smarting a little.
‘Well?’ the officer urged.
Kazuya wiped his eyes furiously with the heels of his hands, reluctant to admit that he was tearing up. He felt so cut off from the world right now anyway, the officer may as well have not even been there. Really, he just wanted to crawl up into a ball and just forget everything. His shoulders tensed and he gave the other man a careful nod. The officer grinned back at him - it was a warm smile that made Kazuya feel a little more comfortable.
‘C-mon then’, the officer said, pulling Koki lightly by the arm and guiding him over to what Kazuya could only assume was his car.
Kazuya watched as he lifted open the boot, before patting the floor of it, encouragingly. Kazuya frowned, honestly feeling a little lost. The officer furrowed his brow and told Kazuya to sit down, not unkindly. Kazuya wasn’t sure.
‘Look, I’m just going to wipe up your blood and give you something to cover the wound with until I get you someplace safe’, he explained, ‘I have a friend who’s a doctor and I’m sure he’d be glad to help you out, free of charge’
Kazuya fingers travelled across the gash in his side, feeling the warmth of his own blood soak into his skin. Without any further ado, he sat down and watched silently as the officer brought out a small black box from the front of the car.
Koki finished cleaning up the wound and quickly pulled out a blanket from beside the thief. He wrapped it around the thief, telling him to press it against the wound to lessen the blood throw. It was a nasty wound, too. If he weren’t so used to bloodshed and murder, that gash would have made Koki feel really quite queasy. Carefully, he helped the injured thief stand, despite his reluctance to be touched.
Having closed the boot, Koki turned to the thief and reached out his hand, ‘Hey, so, I’m Tanaka Koki, s’nice to meet ya’
‘Kamenashi Kazuya…’ the thief said, slowly, eyeing Koki’s hand but showing no signs of participating in the offered handshake.
Koki slipped his back into his pocket, pretend to ignore that he had even held it out in the first place, ‘All right, Kamenashi-san, if you would get into the car’
He waited until Kamenashi had sat down in the passenger’s seat before getting into the car himself. As he let his hand hover over the engine starter, Kamenashi muttered, eyes fixed on his lap and nothing else, ‘You don’t need to call me that’
‘What? Kamenashi-san?’ Koki mused, blinking in faint shock as the other man gave a cautious nod, ‘What’s the matter with calling you that? It’s manners, innit?’
The thief shook his head a little and smiled, looking up at Koki, and taking him slightly by surprise, ‘It’s just so formal, though’
Koki beamed back at the other man, feeling a lot calmer now that it was clear he was no longer frightening him. He supposed it was pretty formal but it wasn’t like he knew the guy, anyway. Koki tried to run it over in his head, confused as to why someone who wanted nothing to with him just moments before didn’t feel it appropriate to be given formalities. But, he didn’t know what the other man had been through, now, did he? He had no right to push the issue any further, ‘All right then, what would you like me to call you?’
‘…Just call me Kazuya’, Kamenashi said, slowly, ‘Just Kazuya’
‘Okay, Kazuya, got it’, Koki chirped, ‘In that case, you call me Koki, okay?’
‘Koki…’, Kamenashi looked up, a small smile still on his features, ‘No problem!’

Author's Notes
This too foreve and I'm so sorry that it did take so long. I didn't mean for that to happen. I got caught up in various things and stuff cropped up, I couldn't use the PC at certain times and, whenever I had the perfect chance to right, I ended up with Writer's Block. I had serious Block on this chapter for so long. Actually, I've done very little by way of fanfics lately. I haven't even managed to read them properly. The only thing I've managed to do is beta my friend's SHINee fics but that's mainly because she badgered me to cause I kept forgetting. As a result, this is a really dialogue-heavy chapter. I hope that's not a problem.
On another note, happy new year everyone!
