Olympics
So I'm kinda bummed I didn't watch any of the Olympic opening ceremony**.  (I just scrolled through pics on yahoo.)  The photos of fireworks over the "bird's nest" gave me chilly-bumps.  Must have been amazing to see in person.  And organizing an event of that magnitude boggles my mind!  I'm going to try to catch some Olympic coverage but I'm so not used to watching tv anymore - who has time with so many dramas to watch??  **Yes! The opening ceremony is on American tv now, I didn't miss it!!!

I learned several Chinese words this week.

1. 麻醉 má zuì - to anesthetize
I heard this in a song by a group I "discovered" this week - The Frogs 青蛙.  I like 'em!

2.青蛙 qīng wā - frog
I'm so happy when my obsessive exploring for new Chinese music pays off in a song or two I really like.

新的奇迹  xīn de qí jī - New Miracle is the name of the song.  The chorus is stuck in my head.
You can listen and/or download it here.  I'm going to do a post on them at mysupercloud real soon.

The line goes,
它太美, 让人麻醉
ta tai mei, rong ren ma zui.
It's too beautiful, makes a person numb.
YAY, my first translation!!! keke!

3. 抗拒 kàng jù - to resist/defy/oppose
This word I first learned while watching the Taiwan show, So I'm Not Handsome, this week.  Then while listening to the Frog's song, New Miracle, for the umpteenth time, it popped out at me and I understood it!  Love it when that happens.

On a side note, I have to say the title, So I'm Not Handsome, doesn't strike me as funny in English, but in Chinese - Yuan Lai, Wo Bu Shuai! - it cracks me up!  So I feel like maybe I'm getting something that's lost in translation.

So I'm Not Handsome is extremely silly with lots of over-acting - like alot of Taiwan dramas tend towards imo - but I found myself laughing mostly, instead of cringing.  I had to put some JJ Lin and Nicky Lee songs back on my ipod.  (They both star in the show.)

Happy Weekend To All!
