So, I was thinking...

well, I realize I am pointing out the obvious a bit here but, you don't think Jesus was the wisest of all men because you don't believe he was the son of God. I mean, if you believed he was and is, you have no choice really but to believe that we was the greatest man who ever lived. As for what makes Christianity right and all other religions wrong: there are very unique things about Christianity that you don't find in any other religion. There is no figure in any other religion like Jesus, for example. No other figure died and was resurrected. No other figure claimed to be the son of God (at least to my knowledge. I suppose I very well could be wrong. Please, anyone point it out to me if I am). No other religion de-emphasizes works so much as Christianity. And by Christianity I mean true, Biblically-based, Jesus-taught Christianity. I realize there are a lot of churches that talk about good works a lot. The fact is that they are just wrong. Your works count zero as get-me-into-heaven points. To me, this makes the most sense. How could a fallible human being like myself ever be good enough to live with God? What could I ever do to earn the favor of a perfect being? Answer: nothing. Someone did it for you. And that's Jesus.

I wrote a paper one time on the similarities between a lot of different religions once. And there are a lot. But the (sometimes few)differences are pretty big.

As for faith being a cop out... Jesus wasn't just all-God. He was also human. In Gethsemene Jesus cried out to God, asking Him to take away this burden if it would be possible. It wasn't. So Jesus did His thing. And on the cross He said "My God, why have you forsaken me?". God was not by Jesus' side, taking away all the pain, stroking his head telling him everything was going to be okay. God did not lead him by the hand up to Calvary. Jesus had faith. And he died for that faith. Many Christians have died for their faith. If that's a cop-out, then I am proud to be one.

blah. there is no way for me to put up any sort of logical argument, because, for some reason, i lack both the power of thought and the command of language. i feel really shitty right now. daniel i would like to continue this conversation with you some other time, it is interesting to talk with someone who knows as much as you do. we will never agree, but its fun to talk. also, we need to do those drums sometime too.
