Bloody hell.

I woke up this morning expecting to see the world covered in a foot of snow. It wasn't, so I got a shower and got ready to go to work. Moselle asked me if I was going to campus - and I was - so we got in the car and headed this way. She mentioned along the way that classes were either delayed or cancelled, but I wasn't prepared for what I saw when I got to the Friday Center - fewer than a dozen cars in the parking lot. I realized that this probably meant that I could park on campus safely today. They do that sometimes, when classes are cancelled. So I parked in the Hanes Art lot, Moselle went off to do art stuff, and I strolled down the nicely clear sidewalk to my office in Phillips. I checked the UNC site, and guess what? The University is closed. Condition III. I'm not ALLOWED to work. Here's what that means:

CONDITION LEVEL III: This is extremely bad weather -- unusually large accumulations of snow, ice, sleet, etc. Law enforcement is advising no one to travel except in an emergency. Roads are impassable. Public transportation is canceled. Parking conditions and sidewalks are unnavigable. In the interest of safety, the Chancellor has closed the University. Classes are canceled, and University offices are closed. Emergency employees must report for work. Employees who have not been designated "emergency" must not attempt to come to their worksites.

This is some bullshit, yo. Ah, well, I guess I'll just have to take advantage of some time off...
