don't stop till you get enough

last night was one of the best musical experiences of my life. www.chillpromotions.com it was called the "zen livetronica festival" and it featured two sets of the new deal, brothers past, Big in Japan, dj keoki, dj ming and FS, and some other dj's, as well as brand new supergroup "SUCKERPUNCH" made up of Zak, the drummer from sts9, brownie and magner, bass and keys from bisco respectively, and james guitar shields on the moog, from the new deal. it started at 9pm (when you walked in, brothers past had already started) and ended at 4am. best of all, it was at Webster Hall, on 11th street, a pretty famous dance club. except, they've never hosted anything like this before, because, although it was 7 hours of dance music, it was 7 hours of dance music created by live bands.

we walked in around 9:15 to the sounds of brothers past. webster hall has 4 floors, and on each floor they had a different act performing, for the entire 7 hours. we chilled to BP for 45 minutes or so, then headed to the basement to check out some of Big In japans set. they were pretty great as usual. they've got this real fusion of distorted ugly rock and dance beats/jungle beats. their drummer is amazing. for those of you familiar with lake trout, Big in Japan is made up of the bass player, drummer and keys/sax/flute guy from lake trout. L.T. used to sound like what Big in Japan currently sounds like now.... that real ugly intense dance sound. difficult to explain, but those of you who've heard early lake trout know what im talkin' about. (think "kono"). then, a half hour later we went to the main stage/room (th third floor) to witness some of the most fantastic music i've ever seen. Suckerpunch was unfuckingbelievable. it was seriously like a fusion of all the things that make the members bands great.. you could hear sts9, new deal, and bisco in everything they did, and the combination was outstanding. they played 3 long ass jams, and about 5 minutes into each, something would just click, and the next 15 would be a dance marathon. they threw it down SO FUCKING WELL! i wish i had more to say, but im just gonna have to get a copy of it asap. suckerpunch segued into the new deals first set, and goddamn those guys are fucking great. this was the 10th time (might be more than that actualy) that i've seen them, but first time in a year. they've evolved so much, and gotten so much freaking tighter.....which, seemed impossible a year ago, cause even back then they were way on top of their game. the new themes have evolved into live monsters, and they had the crowd in the palm of their hand the entire time (which i estimated to be about 700-800 kids...not a lot for a place like webster, but it made the atmosphere that much cooler). so yeah, i could keep going on about how much i danced, and how much every band threw it down, but lets just say it was high energy until it ended, at 4am, and now, having just woke up a half hour ago, my entire body is sore, even my neck, and i couldnt' be happier.

well, im off to go see the yankee game with pops. im definitely looking forward to just chilling for three hours and watchin' a ball game. weaver better not fuck it up!
