The Good:
Spending time with my sister in gorgeous Greensboro, North Carolina. 94 degrees and humid is incredibly superior to 109 degrees and dry, especially when your backyard is 3 acres of forest and a small creek.
Driving to California in a late-model Toyota 4Runner. Best road-trip vehicle EVER.
Pacific Coast Highway. Wow.
Winchester Mystery House. Touring old buildings is a lot more fun when they are built by crazy people.
San Francisco. The friendliest city I have ever visited; everyone is quick to smile and laugh, and the locals are more than happy to help hapless tourists. Pretty crazy place to drive around in, though.
Yosemite National Park. Intensely beautiful views, despite being somewhat obscured by smoke from the ongoing "controlled burn."
The Bad:
Los Angeles. Fuck that place. It's filthy, ugly, every flat surface is covered with graffiti despite ubiquitous coils of barbed wire, the roads are horribly maintained, and the people are angry and rude. If your city's homeless population is so high and gang activity so bad that the 7-Elevens don't allow anyone to use the bathrooms at night, it's time to level the place, with everyone inside, and start over.
