Extra Life Recap and Thank Yous

Oct 21, 2012 16:51

The day started exactly the way I anticipated, with Justin a little slow to wake and get moving and with me hopping onto WoW to track down a Restless Shadeling battle pet. We then did our dailies and ran through a few scenarios. When I had enough of WoW, we switched over to Portal 2 co-op, which was fantastically fun. I found myself laughing to the point of tears--mostly at myself--more than once. We got through the full standard co-op in about six hours, with a short break for lunch in the middle. After that, Justin played some weird airplane football game while I played (and lost) a couple of games of Race for the Galaxy. We tried a little Guild Wars 2, but Justin really wasn't into it... and I died *twice* by missing a fairly easy jump for a vista, so we moved on to Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer, which was ridiculously fun, though we could only get in one match before our guests arrived.

Our friends Chris and Jeremy came over bearing tasty food and a bad-ass card game called Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards. This game is stinkin' awesome. It's on our wishlist. We played that for a couple of hours, until they had to leave for work, then went right back into the ME3 Multiplayer. I *love* playing a vanguard, even if I do tend to bamf into bad situations and die a lot. It is seriously satisfying bamfing about with my shotgun. Of course, I always think I'm doing better than I am, getting a 25 kills medal while someone else (higher level than me!) has their 75 kills medal. Either way, it is still a ton of fun. But Justin was having some trouble streaming it, so we went back to WoW for a bit and killed the Headless Horseman a couple of times before doing a couple more scenarios.

Justin was fading pretty fast by that point, so he moved on to League of Legends to try to keep himself busy and awake, while I went back to Guild Wars 2 to level my adorable little asura mesmer some. He eventually killed his stream so that he could listen to music--doing both was caused a drop in game performance--and just before 4am, he called it a night. I found that I was dying more often than not while playing my mesmer, greatly because my situational awareness was on the decline, so I moved on to a little Bloons Tower Defense 5 to kill a little bit of time. After a game on an intermediate track at medium difficulty, I hopped back on WoW and spent a good chunk of my remaining time getting my Outland and Cataclysm Tricks and Treats achievements, which earned me enough tricky treats to get a Feline Familiar battle pet--which is a cat in a witch hat who walks while you're on the ground then hops on a broom to join you when you are flying, which is obviously awesome--and buy the rest of the masks I needed for my last Hallow's End achievement.

With that, I switched back to Bloons TD5, but kept dozing off. It was after 7:30am by that point, and I decided to call it fifteen minutes early rather than run the risk of passing out while playing. All in all, it was a really fun day, and I did several things I wanted to do and a few things I didn't anticipate doing... and we raised $392 between the two of us for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. It feels good. Really good, even.

Thank you for the generous donations, big and small. Every penny you donated goes right to the charity. Thank you for not only helping out those kids, but also for supporting me. This was important to me because this was something that I, even as a reclusive cave-dweller, could do. This was a way for me to contribute and put my geekiness to good use. It was a way for me to push my boundaries and step out of my comfort zone here and there; I spoke with people and put myself out there more than I usually do because I knew I was doing so for a good cause. This was a wonderfully rewarding experience, and I will definitely be doing this again next year.

I would like to, also, thank a few people individually for the extra support they offered in various ways throughout the day.

First, to my wonderful husband, without whom there wouldn't have been a stream and my day would've been dull and lonely. I had so much fun geeking out with you yesterday. Even if you didn't make it all the way to 8am, I am so very proud of you and so grateful to have had you there with me through most of the marathon!

Second, to our fantastic audience, who kept us motivated. I know only who a few of you are, but I am grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you for sticking it out with us and offering your encouragement. You guys rock!

Third, to Chris and Jeremy, who brought us food and fun that got us away from our computers for a little while. This broke up the day a bit and made it easier to get through. And, seriously, it was great seeing you both. I had so much fun. THANK YOU! I can't wait to see you guys again. Good luck getting all the house stuff settled.

Thank you, everyone. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

zomgyay!, good things, superpowers, gratitude, adventures, geekitude, socialization
