Tonight, leaving for work, I had the choice of water, water, or barricade. In the end, I chose to go around the barricade (with Justin's help) and take my chances out on the open road, uphill towards 422. Walnut Street was overrun with water, so I couldn't take that out to Egypt. 29 was cut off before the bridge, obviously, and they put a barricade up along Walnut... right next to my driveway. I keep hearing that things are only going to get worse overnight. Judging by how close the water already is along Walnut, I'm genuinely worried about getting home tomorrow. I can tell one of the landlords was over at the house today because the basement light was on, but I have no idea how they got there since there was no access over the bridge or by Egypt road all day. I took 422 home yesterday (Wednesday) morning, and had to go through two road blocks just to get to the house. No doubt, I'll have at least the same troubles going home today, assuming the water doesn't creep up to the intersection of Walnut and Bridge Streets. I hope, for our landlords' sakes, this doesn't do much damage to the building. So far, we've been lucky. The water stopped a house or two down Walnut and hasn't seemed to even touch the Produce Junction parking lot yet.
But hey, while browsing a local community's friends' entries, I came across
this entry which is a picture of the river. Note the building back there on the left. That's where I live. Exciting!
