Musings on the subject of beauty

I have here some of the thoughts and philosophies that occur to me sometimes. I often monologue to myself, or my cat, so i may upload other thoughts to LJ aswell, if this one is enjoyed :) This particular monologue is on the subject of beauty, in comparison to intellect. At this point I shall stick in a random quote, from Oscar Wilde; "Beauty is a form of Genius - is higher, indeed, than Genius, as it needs no explaination."

Why is it that people are so insistent that intellect is higher than beauty? It is very much a hypocrite’s opinion, and just as shallow-minded as if one thought the opposite. Both beauty and intellect are the same, only in different forms. They are both skills that a person is born with, or without. They are skills, or talents. A person does not choose what they look like, and in the same way, they are unable to choose their brain-power, or what to be talented at.

To say “brains over beauty” is to say “I am making my decision based on what a person is born with”, which is just the same as “beauty over brains”. There is no wrong in saying this, as long as you don’t think yourself better for it. People are always licensed to preferences, unless they use these preferences to make themselves out as higher than the rest.

Beauty and intellect are both art forms and sciences. They are both natural and both must be worked for.

In neglecting their studies, a genius may become an idiot.

In neglecting themselves, a beauty may become a beast.

Everything about a person is a gift. Whether it is beauty or brains, a talent for music, or for art, or for storytelling. Never entertain the thought that some gifts are worth less than others.
