Had a bit of a scare last night...
Matt and I decided to go for a walk at like 10:00 or so to maybe get an ice cream or check out a nightclub etc, as we have done a heap of times before.
We went to Connections for a while, before leaving and deciding to walk through the train station and see how long the line is at Carnegies. We crossed Wellington Street on the foot bridge near the bus station and walked along Wellington Street to Queen Street, where some other people were walking the other way.
About halfway down Queen Street (towards Murray Street) we noticed these three young Asian guys following us, really quickly.. and before we knew what to do they were right next to us. One of them took me by the collar of my shirt, and he had a beer bottle in his other hand. Started having a go saying something about us 'eyeballing' him (I hadn't even seen him before, but Matt said that he had seen them at the train station, but thought nothing of it). He hit me on the head (very lightly, it barely even hurt) with the beer bottle, and then started having more of a go at Matt. Very fortunately, a taxi just drove down Queen Street at that moment, and we yelled at the taxi driver to stop for us. We went around the front of the taxi, planning to get in on the other side and get the fuck out of there, but the cunt driver just sounded his horn at us, and then kept going... but at least it was enough of a distraction for us to make a run for it to Murray Street, with them chasing us. Once we were at Murray Street, a few people had noticed what was going on, the cunts stoped following us and I got straight on my mobile to the police.
I dialled 000 as I was still shit scared, and expected them to be able to send a police car really quickly and probably catch them. But they ended up being really useless. He asked me my name, and where and when it happened and who they were and what they looked like and how I was feeling and all this shit, and then sent a police car which turned up like 10 minutes later. They asked all the same stuff again and by that time they would have been long gone and there was really no point even bothering. We just paid for a taxi home, because we really didn't feel like walking through the train station again to get back to Northbridge.
I guess in a way we were kind of lucky, as we were both completely uninjured, had nothing stolen and were really just a bit shaken up by it all. But I hate to thing what could have happened if that taxi didn't drive past when it did. We were the only people in the street at the time, there were three of them and only two of us, and one of them had a beer bottle (and who knows what else they had that we couldn't see). I have only ever really been in the sort of situation once before, where I had my mobile phone stolen by black guys, buy I wasn't really in any personal danger that time I don't think, because it was on the foreshore on Australia day, so was obviously really busy.
I am now pissed off, that I am not going to feel safe walking around like that at night anymore, as I have done probably 1000 times before.. even with another person.
