Yuletide 2012

Dear Yuletide author,

Hi! First of all, thank you for signing up to write one of my beloved little fandoms! What follows is a good bit of rambling about my likes and dislikes and my feelings on each fandom. If it helps you to get to know me, great! If it makes you want to run screaming in the other direction, please don’t! I will appreciate and cherish whatever you write for me.

I’m the sort of author who loves prompts; I find them a great source of inspiration, especially with something like Yuletide because it gives me a bit more direction towards what my recipient wants. With that in mind, I’ve included a few vague-ish prompt suggestions with each fandom. Please don’t feel constrained by them if they don’t work for you! I’m just throwing them out there as optional inspiration.

General Likes:
• Hurt/Comfort, emphasis on the comfort
• Character-driven stories
• Familial/sibling relationships (actual blood families or friends/families of choice)
• Strong male friendships (Bromance, though I hesitate to use the term because it seems to have a wide range of definitions. For me it is close friendship without a sexual component. I’m a big believer that friendships involving whatever combination of genders can be close and loving without becoming sexual. That’s what I really love to read.)
• Happy endings
• Holiday stories are fine (though certainly not necessary if they’re not your thing)
• Plotty stuff is great and I can really get into it, but I also enjoy one-shots that act as tag scenes for episodes or vignettes that show little slices of life.

Dislikes:
• Incest
• Porn
• Slash
• Gore, excessive violence
• Mpreg
• Gender-bending
• Excessive swearing/foul language
• Main character death
• Humiliation/intense embarrassment of characters is kind of a squick for me

My requests:

1) Eureka (Zane Donovan, Douglas Fargo)

I love this show and miss it terribly already. I loved the storylines of the last season, and I really loved the growing friendship between Zane and Fargo; everything from the earlier romantic advice, to Fargo’s confidence in making Zane head of Section 5, to Zane offering consolation and sticking by Fargo through all the trauma with Holly. It brought glimpses of the sweeter, caring side of troublemaker Zane. It also really endeared me to Fargo, who matured so much as a character while still maintaining his sweet goofiness. It amazes me that, as far as I can tell, virtually no one is writing fic about these two.

I’d really like a story that focuses on their friendship. Background Zane/Jo or Fargo/Holly is cool, but I really want Zane and Fargo to be the focus. Maybe something episode related, like Zane sitting with Fargo during the week he waited to see if Holly would wake. Or maybe an AU where Astraeus actually does make it to Mars - what is everyday life like? Or just give me a Zane and Fargo on a typical day in Eureka. Anything focusing on the two of them and their friendship will make me happy. :)

2) Sarah Jane Adventures (Clyde Langer, Luke Smith)

Doctor Who for the next generation! I love these two characters-Luke with his sweet naiveté and Clyde with his brazen ‘we-save-the-world’ snarkiness. They’re really very unlikely friends. I loved the moments when Luke, who has endless intellectual knowledge, needed one of those close to him to explain social interactions or emotions.

Someone as smart and socially clueless as Luke had to have a hard time in school. Maybe there was bullying, or people trying to take advantage? I’d love to see Clyde (and Maria or Rani, if you want) getting protective of him. Or, if you’re familiar with Doctor Who as are up for a crossover, I love the idea of them traveling with the Doctor or meeting up with other companions.

3) Common Law (Wes Mitchell, Travis Marks)

I adored this show. I love buddy cop shows, and this is kind of the ultimate in that genre because the focus was always on their relationship in some way. The therapy themes bleed into their work and personal lives. I really liked seeing the ways the couple-problem themes applied to the straight partnership.

I'd love a story focused on Wes & Travis' friendship. Preferably no slash, please. I love the therapy group, so feel free to set something in a that setting or otherwise using those characters. Or maybe something with more of Travis' extended foster family or something about Wes's background, since we never got to learn much about his family. I'm pretty easy to please with this fandom...I just want to see them being their snarky but truly caring selves with each other.

4) Revolution (Maggie, Danny Matheson, Charlie Matheson)

My favorite new show! I love the concept and the characters. And oh Maggie, we hardly knew you. Her backstory was heartbreaking, and I really want more. What I’d love to see is her becoming part of the Matheson family, settling into everyday life after her journey and coming to love these two kids who are not hers. Or maybe from one of the kids’ points of view-Danny was probably so young he hardly remembers his mother, and Charlie’s had it drilled into her that she’s responsible for Danny, so this new mother figure is alternately a great mystery or a huge threat to the family roles. (I’d have chosen Ben too if he were a character option, so please feel free to include him if you like!)

Alternately, AU is fine with me. Maybe Maggie lives and the three are reunited. Or maybe Ben doesn’t die and is taken by the militia, and Maggie and Danny and Charlie all set off to search for him together. If you can have the three of them interact, I’ll be happy. I’d just love more exploration of those family dynamics.

Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings. And thank you so much for writing! I'm looking forward to my story and again, I will love whatever you wish to write. :)

Happy Yuletide!
