It's all over

Yesterday I drove away from DePauw never to return again. Well, never to return the same way. I suppose it's possible I'll be back for a Monon or a reunion in the future, but yesterday was the last day that DePauw was my home.

After a series rather emotional goodbyes, I drove around campus a few times and then left for my Grandma's house in Brownsburg, listening to all the sad songs on my Rosemary Clooney CD. Once I'd wrung all the sorrow out of the moment that I could, I switched over to a CD by an Australian band called Silverchair, on which my favorite song is one called "Without You." I mention this because the chorus to this song has always puzzled me. It goes, "And you brighten my life like a polystyrene hat/But it melts in the sun like a life without love/And I've waited for you so I'll keep crying out/Without you."

The last part makes sense I suppose, but I promise a reward to anyone who can tell me what it means to brighten someone's life like a polystyrene (??) hat. The lesson I took from the song is that you can learn in 3 minutes and 45 seconds what it took me six months and a $1800 plane ticket to learn: Australians are not like the rest of us.

Tomorrow I leave for D.C.! And yes, I fit everything into my car, even once I had taken back from Cody all the underwear he stole.
