The sound of music.

Today was the last day of marching season, and unlike last year, we are not going to a Bowl Game. There will be no plane trip, no hotel, and no different states.
But just like last year, the end of the season is, as Monty puts it, bittersweet.

I love the people I have found through music.

We share something that is not quite explainable to those not involved in music at one point or another. Even the camaraderie developed through our program is difficult to capture in words, simply because there's a way things are done, and I love that. I love our traditions, our attitudes, our silliness, our seriousness, our everything.

Things are different in music. And maybe this is true of every group, be it a sports team or a religious organization or a band. Maybe it's true that there's something intrinsically unexplainable, because it's just a feeling. And feelings are intrinsically unexplainable. How do you explain your gut? It's not possible.

I appreciate the unknown, instead of searching for an answer to everything. I think it's arrogant to assume we will eventually understand everything in the universe. I think it's realistic to assume that there are things that don't follow any rules we can cook up. The universe is a vast and ridiculous place, and part of that is feelings that don't make sense, feelings that don't follow any of our rules or guidelines or social mores.

I love that.
