Happy Holidays: New Year's Day

Holidays are emotional times of the year, so it's a lot easier to connect/type about them.
Summery: Jonas reflects on the new.
New Year's Day
After Vision II came back from traveling the world and discovered himself to be a normal kid named Jonas, Billy grabbed him and said that’s just what he needed and took him to a New Year party Teddy’s friend is hosting. Apparently, Jenny holds the New Year bash at her place every year. Teddy goes because he’s part of the basketball team and Billy goes because he’s Teddy’s boyfriend. And then Tommy invited himself because there’s free booze and excuses it as him being Billy’s long lost twin brother. Eli and Kate are not going due to her dragging him to her parents’ New Years party, under the justification of her not having to dance with social climbing sons of her father’s business associates. Cassie isn’t aloud out that night. Jonas is dragged to the party because Billy doesn’t want to be the only normal person in Jock Heaven.
So Billy and Jonas have plastic cups of non-alcoholic [Pepsi] drinks watching the party from the banister of the third floor looking down into the raving masses in the living-room/foyer/kitchen areas. The second floor has become the make out level and the drunks don’t have enough coordination to make it up to the top, so Billy has deemed it the safe space in this land-of-madness. Billy looks over to see a wide-eyed Jonas studying the insanity of the “popular people” as they watch from above. The placed is badly decorated with colored streamers and a net holding a countless [108] number of balloons to the ceiling to be released at midnight. The stereo system is blasting club [Run the Show by Kat] music to which the people into the foyer and some couples on the second floor dance to. There’s also the sound of someone [Willis Brown] becoming best friends with the toilet down the hall. The living room has the TV [That 70’s Show] on full volume while a group of kids play Twister alongside another group playing pool and Tommy is somehow doing both at the same time. In the kitchen is a buffet [20 pizza hut pizza with pepperoni, Lays chips of sour cream & onion, salt & vinegar, cheese Doritos, cheesy puffs, a vegetable platter of ranch dip with carrot, celery, tomatoes and broccoli, a fruit platter with strawberry yogurt dip with cantaloupe, honey dew, watermelon, and pineapple, and a cracker platter with Ritz crackers, cheater and Swiss cheese with pepperoni and ham] of junk food and has the kitchen table being used for what looks like poker while others use the available counter space as seats to talk and gossip. Billy floats a bag of salt and vinegar chips and half a box of pizza up to their floor. He shrugs at Jonas they’re drunk and starts to eat. Jonas turns to watch out the huge back window to look down at the pool area. Elisabeth pulled a Kate and dragged Lance to her own family’s celebration. Greg mans the grill to make sure that everyone who has a beer in hand also has food in their stomach. Charlie and Teddy are setting up what looks like fireworks [permit in the back of Charlie’s pocket] while Jason is taping everything with his new [Samsung] camera to put onto youtube. A lot of the girls are sitting around the freezing pool looking like they’re trying to get a moontan.
This is what Jonas thinks normal people think of when they think of normal people, but this is the first time he has experienced something like this. Looking over at Billy, who is wearing the expression of confusion and recognition he has when Teddy applies a sports analogy to comics, this is new to him too. Their definition of normal doesn’t seem to coincide with the general public. But most normal people don’t have powers, run around in costumes fighting villains and saving people. But their normal is still different from normal super heroes. They have multiple lives combining to create their present state. Jonas has the memories of a past life as Vision who had the emgrams of Wonder Man and created by Ultron, but his creation was from armor from the future that’s function is to protect, and his ‘mind’ is based off the emgrams of Nate/Iron Lad/Kang. In Billy’s past life he was will into existence and created from parts of Mephisto’s soul in an altered reality, and in this one was born as a gay mutant into a normal Jewish family after M-Day. Both connected together as family in their last life and teammates in this one, and both separate from others in their definition of normal.
Someone starts to shout the count-down from the living room and soon the rest of the party joins in…6…5…4…3…2…1…HAPPY NEW YEAR! Billy zaps the balloons free and smirks when he hears a few drunk people yelling that the sky is falling. The night sky is then lit up with blues, greens, reds, and yellows. Billy feels the cool metal of Jonas’s kiss on his check happy new year. Billy laughs and toasts their cups before he kisses his friend on the check to new beginnings. The sounds of girls’ screams of TOMMY are accompanied by splashes. Jonas sits close to Billy as he drinks from their toast and they watch the fireworks from their safe space. Yes, to new beginnings.
