So Kelly and I went to the new onsen in Wadayama, Oka(?) Onsen, on Friday night. It had all the bells and whistles, but I really didn't like it. It was noveau riche tacky. Ewww. Really. Money seriously cannot buy class. And the water was way to lukewarm for my liking. I reckon I go soak in onsens for the healing properties of the water, not for the giant television I can watch while soaking myself. I might give it another chance soon. We'll see. For now, the plan is to try Silk Onsen in Tanto next. We adjourned to Orange for cake and Parfait where I picked Kelly's brain about marginalised minority groups, illegal immigrants, the welfare system, in America. (All these questions were brought up because I've been watching The Shield).
On Saturday, I took a road trip by myself to visit Byron in Kodera! It took about 1hour and 45 minutes to get there on Route 312! I got a little lost...but I made it! We had lunch in this quaint lil French/Japanese eatery which had awesome awesome desserts! The main purpose of my visit was to hang out and help him bring washing to the dryers, go to the grocery store, etc! I'm glad I could help! When the laundry done, we got a little peckish, so we decided to go on a hunt for Pizza Hut. He kinda knew where it was...I kinda knew where it was...so we set off to find it! And on the way to Himeji, I changed lanes for the first time and I did it TWICE! Woooohooo! I vaguely recalled that Pizza Hut was on Route 372, so we made a turn and Ta Dum! Pizza Hut! It took no time to find at all! We took out a half and half. Half Hawaiian and half Gourmet! So delicious! I was feeling lazy so I stayed over at Byron's instead of driving home. BTW, Byron has cable television! Oh so lovely. We stayed up to watch CSI, but both of us ended up falling asleep! I woke up at 9am the next day and watched television (so many channels!) till 1030am and took off for Tajima.
The drive home on Sunday only took 1 hour 10 minutes! It was speedy! Very little traffic until I hit Wadayama of course! I stopped at home for 2 minutes to pick up my gym bag and then drove over to Sato Sensei's house in Hidaka for lunch! I got a little lost again trying to get to her house. Gawd! Roads are so tiny in Japan. I totally thought the road leading to her house was a footpath. And missed it a hundred times! Hahahha. She's an awesome host, she made chirashizushi and yakisoba (I helped!) for lunch! Ryan (also works with Sato Sensei) and Sapna (works with Sato sensei's husband) were late! I was starving by the time they arrived but it was all good because when I started, I ate and ate! For dessert, Sapna had made yummy traffic light jelly with pineapple and mandarin orange bits, delicious! So we talked and gossiped till late afternoon whilst Sato Sensei plied us with more dessert, coffee, mochi, etc! It was great! I was totally going to the gym after but I checked the card and found out too late that it closes at 5pm on Sundays! Drats!
It was altogether a pretty lovely weekend. The busiest I've had since Dexter came to visit! No more busy weekends to come anytime soon I hope. I really like sitting at home doing absolutely nadda! The only things coming up would be a trip to Costco with Ryan and Sapna, and the Noh Kyogen performance in Kobe on March 25th. I'm pretty excited about the Noh Kyogen performance. I reckon it'll be the only time where I'll get to watch a Noh performance and actually take a stab at understanding it (hopefully the nice organizers will give us a translation or explanation or something!)
No classes today but a whopping 4 tomorrow! Yay! I like having classes, but I guess I'll just have to study Japanese and come up with a test for my Oya students today.
And what's with all this snow falling? This is complete rubbish. It's supposed to rainy! Grrrrr. Yahoo really dropped the ball on this one! *shakes fist at falling snow*!
