I've had two full nights of sleep in a row and am feeling like I might be conscious and aware of the world around me again (the four previous nights involved rather less than four hours of sleep each). And so I shall start being annoying making regular updates on my progress with my longfics that have to be done before the end of the year. This month is Finish Lovers in Arms Month, I have decided, and so far today I've got on well, slogging through a bit of plot that I've been putting off doing for ages, so that I've finally got to the fun drama bit that comes after that. I am actually writing this story from beginning to end, linearly, and it's weird but fun trying to construct the whole thing in order straight away instead of writing all the cool bits as they come to me and then stitching them together.
So, word counts: 24,042 words of completed fic, today's total so far: 2562 words.
And have a snippet from today's writing:
"They'll be our prisoners," Cordelia said slowly. She'd never had a prisoner before. It was alarming, like someone had just tied the half dozen Cetagandans around her neck. "Once it's secure down here, bring them down dirtside and we'll put them with the others. Put them in our brig in the meantime; treat them like any of our crew who've been brigged. You know how that works?" They'd only had to use that ultimate sanction once in the past two years, but it was part of training and standard procedures. "Restrain them carefully and don't let them see anything on our ship. They are Cetagandans."
"Yes, ma'am," Parneet said. "All right, ma'am, I have to go now."
"Keep me posted. And good luck to you all." She cut the link and looked at Vorkosigan. "All going well up there so far. But what are we going to do with all these Cetagandans?" If they won. But she didn't want to add that condition to the question.
Vorkosigan frowned. "We don't usually have facilities to hold prisoners--when we take them back home, we normally use them as exchange, for our own men or supplies or sometimes," he sighed, "for safe passage out of Ceta strongholds. But this place is already set up for it. They can just trade places with us."
