Fic: darkness in the light

May 25, 2011 14:51

I was trying to write something totally different today, but this little fic ambushed me and demanded to be written instead, so here you go. Also, it's practically a songfic, and I really don't do songfics, so I don't know what happened there. But if you want to know, the song that inspired it is hereTitle: darkness in the light ( Read more... )

aral/ges, fics, aral/cordelia, commentfic

What I lovelovelove about this fic is the trust that is implicit in that last scene. So Good.

Thanks! And I'm glad that trust came across well. It's hard to get things to work with only 100 words to play with!

Oh, wow. Perfect and scary Ges, especially in the third and fourth drabbles. That is exactly how I picture him. And his growing mad obsession comes out really well too.

Writing Ges's perspective was ... interesting. There's a reason this was only drabbles, though!

And the song is so perfectly Aral/Ges. Though I warn you, it's a terrible earworm. I've been humming it all day.

This surprised me in all sorts of ways (in 600 words!). First, as much as I am squicked by Ges in canon, I found him surprisingly human and even sympathetic here (well, at first, that is). I really like the connections drawn between Aral's drinking and his relationship with Ges. And then that last drabble hit really hard and went deeper than I was expecting. I'd love to think that Cordelia might help exorcise a few more ghosts this night.

Yeah, I like humanising 'monsters'. Ges is crazy and very, very wrong, but I still kind of want to know how he thinks and why. And - well, this fic was nearly labelled 'Aral/alcohol, Aral/Ges, Aral/Cordelia' ;-). And there was definitely exorcising of ghosts, at the end. *loves Cordelia and Aral*

Loved this. The third paragraph is so chilling; and the last one... very weird feeling.

Thanks! Yes, there's a lot of disturbing stuff in Ges and Aral's relationship.

Ges sits and watches him and wonders what the words are for the way this makes him feel.

This sentence creeps me out, for some reason. Or, well, for a specific reason if I'm reading the subtext right. Ges = sooooo fucked up. I was very glad for the last section when I got there - like waking up from a nightmare. &Cordelia;

I actually felt really sorry for Ges with that bit. He is so very screwed up, but he's also only a kid at this point and he has nobody to tell him 'yeah, you have weird kinks, but you can still be a good person and find safe and consensual ways to indulge them'. And I doubt his family role models have been exactly good, either.

But yeah. I needed a Cordelia bit by the time I got to the end of this fic too.

Yeah, I bet Betan dollars to sand that haunts Aral after he gets educated on it later in life. I suppose it's the... detachment that creeped me out in the way Ges is just watching Aral suffer, the hint of deeper issues than simple sexual sadism.
