• Finally saw Star Trek: Into Darkness today.
First, I admit that my adoration of Benedict outweighs my interest in Star Trek, despite liking the first JJ Abrams reboot and watching TNG when I was a kid. That said, I thought the movie as a whole was excellent and brilliantly acted by not only the Batch (I don't know why, but it amuses me to call him that, and so I do) as well as Chris, Zachary, Karl, Zoe, Simon, and John Cho. I wasn't terribly surprised by the reveal of Benedict's character. As cagey as he's been ever since getting the role, it was just too easy to figure out, even for a non-Trekkie. But that's not a complaint. He was deliciously badass. No wonder he had fun filming it. My only possible issue with the movie is that there wasn't enough Cumberbatch for my liking... but there never really is.
Has anyone seen it in both 2D and 3D? I went to an IMAX 3D showing (because of reasons... that have nothing to do with a giant screen and thus a giant Benedict... no, really). Unlike The Hobbit, I felt a bit more bothered by the 3D this time. I'm not crazy about the "THINGS COMING AT YOU!" aspect of 3D, which was much more prevalent in STID than in The Hobbit. That said, I absolutely loved the effect of warp speed in 3D.
Anyway, I am tempted to see the movie again in 2D before it leaves theaters.
ETA: Phil Lester (a.k.a. AmazingPhil on YouTube) just tweeted about seeing STID, and called it "lesflaretastic." LOL Perfect.
• After watching the first two episodes of Game of Thrones, I bought season two off eBay. So, obviously: hooked. I have two episodes left of the first season, which I'll likely watch tonight.
Love seeing Sean Bean in something again. The internet being what it is, I know that Ned Stark dies. And also because, well, that's the fate of characters played by Bean, as per the law. Also love seeing more Aidan Gillen (he does wicked and slimy so very well) and Peter Dinklage. Other than Ned and Tyrion, favorites at the moment are Arya, Jon Snow, Daenerys, Caitlyn, and Bran. So, yeah, I guess I'm very pro-House Stark. I mean, they have dire wolves, for fuck's sake. However, I know dragons will be coming soon, so. Hrm. Wolves, dragons, wolves, dragons.... argh!
I could do without some of animal-related violence and gore. Yet I anticipated it. Honestly, the hardest scene for me so far was when Tywin Lannister was gutting and skinning the deer. Had to hold my hands up to block out the bottom of the screen. Yes, mutilate as many human characters as you like, but as soon as it's an animal, I will cower.
• I think the season finales for SPN and Doctor Who being so close together was basically an emotional pummeling. I loved both. But I don't feel like speculating on either. Just going to wait and see where the ride takes us from here - my usual approach. I will say that, whatever happens with Who, Matt Smith's acting has been remarkable. Same for Mark Sheppard, Misha, Jensen, and Jared. I love my shows.
• I hope you all are well.
