❁ So, a MN republican called Neil Gaiman "a pencil-necked little weasel" and a thief? It's always so refreshing to see how well politicians prioritize their time and energy. And the thoughtful eloquence!
❁ Really sad to hear that the amazing Jenny Conlee, of the Decemberists, has breast cancer. It's not going to be the same at the Philly show without her. They said it was caught early, so hopefully she'll be able to make a full recovery.
❁ Last night, I tried writing fic for the first time in months. I only got a few sentences done before I just lost nerve... mostly because it was Julian Barratt/Noel Fielding slash (well, that was the intention; it never made it to the slashy place) and therefore completely new and therefore completely frightening. Maybe I need to poke the muse by rewatching the last two SPN episodes. I should at least be able to do a drabble. That's less pressure, right?
Have written some poetry though, so some creativity is getting through.
❁ Also, my interest in reading fic has gone way down. I don't know why. Maybe it's that there are currently three fandoms jostling around in my wee fannish brain, all pulling focus from the other. Things were easier when I was all about SPN. I think I've read a handful of fics in the past two months, tops. I know I've missed a lot of stuff you all have posted, and I apologize for that. The to-read list is fit to burst.
❁ Why do so many skin creams contain alcohol? Even the "all natural" ones list it among their ingredients. Riddle me this: how is something that dries out skin supposed to help moisturize?
Also, I think the eye creams that claim to diminish dark circles are all lying. Or they're all for people with normal, occasionally didn't-get-enough-sleep circles, not people with hereditary dark circles from hell.
❁ This year's car inspection hit hard. Needed new front brakes and a new strap for the gas tank, as apparently one of them had fallen off without me realizing it. Couldn't this shit have happened before I was laid off?
❁ Made an appointment to get my hair cut. This is noteworthy because I haven't had my hair cut professionally in about 10 years. But I need something new. Definitely thinking bangs. I kind of want to get a few streaks of color (bright red or magenta or purple, if those would work with dark auburn), but wonder if that might be a bad choice what with the whole looking for work and thus needing to look professional thing.
❁ Thinking of downgrading Netflix to one disc at a time. Ever since getting high speed, I've been watching more stuff online... most recently, The IT Crowd (Richard Ayoade might be the hottest guy to ever get away with convincingly playing a geek) and Nathan Barley (Julian, how so awesome?) and shiny charming shininess of Bunny and the Bull. Meanwhile, Deadwood S2 disc 4 and Hamlet (dude, it's Tennant, why have I not watched it yet??) have been making fantastic dust-catchers.
❁ Apparently it's Star Wars Day? The only way to celebrate, imho, is to watch the original trilogy, theatrical version. Han shoots first, Mr. Lucas. Don't try to tell me otherwise.
❁ This is a note to myself to remind me to make a Mother's Day card. Also a note to myself to remind me to come up with an idea for how to design the card.
