❊ I'm all caught up with Doctor Who now.
For whatever reason, Eleven didn't seem to click with me until I got to "A Christmas Carol." That episode managed to delight me in ways that had me feeling the old love again (you know, the old love I originally felt way back a month ago). Though I still feel like something's missing. Yeah, I know, biased.
Anyway, I loved the bizarre scifi Dickensian twist of the Xmas special. With Michael Gambon! And the fish that can fly in fog? Ever since I was a kid, one of my recurring dream themes has been fish that fly in the air. So, very nearly a dream come true image there.
I did notice that the Doctor's explanation to Sardick at the beginning felt very Sherlock-esque, both in the unraveling monologue and the style in which it was shot/edited (with the sped-up effect and rapid, fluid zoom-ins... or whatever the technical terms would be). Moffat might want to be careful about being redundant with his shows. "Might," because, well, it is very awesome. :)
Also, weird little moment when Abigail was looking through the window at her family and the camera showed the Doctor in the background... something about his longer hair and his typically awkward movements combined to remind me of Edward Scissorhands. *hands*
Unrelated to the Xmas special: after S5, I'm even more curious about River Song, as I'm sure everyone is. Looking forward to seeing what we find out next about her.
Every time I see the bit in the S6 promo where the Doctor is all scraggly and beardy, I keep imagining Michael Palin going: "It's...!" *cue Liberty Bell March*
Another thing about the promo: why is there a clown?!? Fucking clowns.* And creepy doll-faced things! Fucking creepy doll-faced things. Meep.
But most importantly: TEN'S TARDIS.
[* Albeit not as disturbing as the clown posted to
vintagephoto today. Jesus. That thing will haunt me, I just know it.]
❊ On the Tennant side of things, I'm 4/6 of the way through Blackpool. Really though, it's a small miracle I managed to get that far... and not get stuck on the ice cream eating in episode 2. That? Is porn. Seriously though, I'm enjoying the series, not just because of David and his scene-stealing tongue. Also, totally sang along with "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side."
❊ Have found myself addicted to Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
❊ Really hoping there will be no apocalyptic dreams tonight like there were last night. Imminent death, panic, fleeing the unfleeable (something about all the oxygen leaving the atmosphere) and clinging to loved ones. Yeah, that's such great dream fodder that when I woke up, went to the bathroom, and went back to sleep, it decided to return, pretty much picking up where it left off. Why does that not happen with happy, sexy, fun times dreams?
