Creepy and grotesque and terrifying, then it twists around to the end full of light and love and redemption. The visuals are amazing, as is the emotional ride. Like Sam, there were moments I forgot they were occupying a dream space - so visceral.
I'm really glad you felt that the love and redemption came through. It honestly made all that darkness and torment easier to write, knowing Sam would come to the rescue in the end. Thank you so much. <3
I always like your writing, but this piece is super strong for me - i think because you get so tight into Sam's head space and in a way that is completely believable.
Aw, I'm really glad you felt that way. Sam often seems a bit harder to get than Dean -- not that Dean's simpler or Sam's more complex. Maybe that Dean's less successful at hiding his true feelings, so there's a kind of transparency (or translucence maybe) that's easier to work with in fic.
I think Dean is easier for me as well - and like you said it's not becasue he is less complex. I've been thinking about this a bit.
I wonder if it has anything to do with how show is filmed. In fic we always talk about POV and I've been thinking that show seems to me often to be filmed from Dean POV - especially things like the dream sequences and the wish fulfillment episode. I think maybe as viewers we get more insights into Dean's persona, v. Sam. IDK - just speculating. :)
I think you could be right about Dean's being the predominant POV. Which is interesting because you can tell from the pilot that they were aiming for a Sam POV... although maybe the writers always intended to use that as a device for pulling in viewers -- Sam was trying to live as an outsider therefore more relatable to viewers than Dean at that initial point. I mean, the show's still about both boys, brothers. (Some fans get so worked up over this imagined Sam versus Dean thing, which is completely missing the point of course.) But it would be interesting to plot out how the balance of POV has been handled over the seasons.
