six things, one segue, no substance
1.) Am I the only one who finds Seth Rogen strangely attractive? I kind of want to see The Green Hornet now. I can't NOT watch that part in the ads when he starts rapping along to "Gangsta's Paradise." Especially the little hat brim move. Fucking adorable.
(By the way, would anyone happen to have "Gangsta's Paradise" and be willing to share? Pretty please?)
2.) Appropriate to the subject of Seth Rogan, I'm still renting Freaks and Geeks and still loving it. Crush on Jason Segel still in full swing too (however I'm unwilling to go see Gulliver's Travels for him or Jack Black-that looks like utter shite). The last episode I watched was "I'm With the Band" where we get to see him be all Animal-like on Nick's insane drum kit (29 pieces, that still cracks me up).
Bill is freaking hilarious. And, jesus, James Franco was really working the James Dean thing in this show. I kind of want to choke Busy Phillips' character. Love almost all of the characters though. They feel real, like people I went to high school with, though I went during a different era and was neither a freak nor a geek (well, not so obviously). Really identify with Lindsay, though I think I was an overachiever compared to her (huh, what happened to me?). Gah, I'm loving it all so much I just want to barrel through each disc, but feel like I should take my time as there's only one season of it. Figures, I get into almost all of the good shows long after they aired, and almost all of those are short-lived.
3.) The other night I watched The Violin (or El violín). What an amazing and powerful piece. It was shot entirely in black and white, with gorgeous, minimalist cinematography. I especially loved the way the filmmakers incorporated the landscape into the shots, creating a sense of near-literal grounding. It's stark, and in its starkness the harsh reality comes through without the need for gratuity (although there is a rape scene at the very beginning, just a warning, and a few more moments of direct violence-those moments being completely within context as the movie deals with an indigenous uprising against the Mexican army). Also, the casting? Wow. So many captivating faces (and Gerardo Taracena is really beautiful) and understated, genuine performances.
4.) SO happy that blindfold_spn is back! I hadn't been in the mood for it during the last round (not sure why, I go through moods where I don't want to read porn, and others where it's all I want to read, and others still where it's anything goes, and others others still where I don't want to read fic at all), and was just catching up on reading through that round when the new one opened. Perfect timing!
