* Hotel reservations for the NJ SPN con have been made. So, just one more thing to go... but with the hotel room and the tickets taken care of, the plans are definitely set. (!!!!) Gah, still can't believe it! I'm sure I'll be pinching myself up until that first weekend in March.
*
desertgoddess: You'll be happy to know I got Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago and am completely in love with it. Thank you for pimping him (and for sharing all the videos)! :) The album provided the perfect soundtrack for the recent weather: snow sticking to the trees, creating a scene of white-on-dark contrasts, with freezing rain adding an extra glean to everything. Stark and slightly foreboding. Yet fragile and beautiful too. And comforting-this cold cocooned world.
* For the past few days, I've also been stuck on "Furr" by Blitzen Trapper. If only I could love the rest of the album as much as the title track. The song just sticks out like a sore thumb. Mostly in a good way. But as someone who really adores whole, cohesive albums that you not only can but must listen to front-to-back, Furr is a bit disappointing.
* Per usual, instead of just buying gifts for others this year, I got myself a little something. This yellow sweater of supreme cuteness
:
It seems like it needs a plaid skirt to go with it. If I only I could find one I like, in the right size and right length (when you're 5'3" it's difficult to trust a vague listing of "hits at knees"-what, do these stores think everyone's the same height?). And I'm wary of wool because. Well. Itchy.
* I was listening to the Weepies today and thinking about how great they'd be for a Pushing Daisies mix. And then I realized that an entire Weepies album IS a Pushing Daisies mix. A little bitter, a lot of sweet... bright, light and lyrical.
Speaking of Pushing Daisies:
Ned's dad!
... is George Hamilton? Bzuh??
Somehow I feel there was an attempt-a little too late-to cater to ABC with all the recapping in this episode. It was beginning to get exasperating. I don't blame the writers exactly. While I'm not sure this is the case, I can just imagine ABC telling them to explain things better. Seriously, I doubt even new viewers would need that much explanatory narration. Ah well.
"By-proxy hand jive"! I love how sweet Chuck and Ned are, how Chuck makes all of Ned's anxiety and neuroticism dissolve away and how Ned makes all of Chuck's worries and woes melt away too. And I love how Emerson cuts through their sweetness. Altogether, they make such a symbiotic trio.
Yay covert!Olive. I'm so glad she wasn't turncoating on the gang. And the lesbianic vibes were hilarious. (Was that a callback to Olive's originally intended backstory? Remember how Bryan said in the dvds that instead of a jockey, Olive was going to be a lesbian pop-up book writer?) Loved the scene where she was literally out on a limb, clinging to Ned. And that little reveal, and the look on her face. Aww. Not that I want any Olive/Ned pairing on the show, but I do like her to be happy. Obviously it was a bigger deal to her than it was to Ned: he was just letting slip a little honesty. And she took that little sliver of honesty and made a meal out of it. I wish Alfredo would come back and give her what Ned can't.
Ned in a turtleneck! There is something rather turtle-ish about him, isn't there? Well, a lanky-ass turtle, sure. But with the shyness and slumpy shoulders... turtle-ish. Which is a total compliment, as turtles are love. But back to the sweater. I love the color palette on the show, particularly how they keep the lead and most magical (thus far) character in neutrals while everyone else is in technicolor most of the time. Well, except Dwight, who I think was kept mainly in browns and khakis. Hmmm. I wonder if that means anything, considering the established connection between him and Ned's and Chuck's fathers. And I wonder if we'll ever find out. :(
There was a lot of referencing of the finger in this episode. It was kind of dirty. And I kind of like it. :)
Also, Mother! The MILF joke was so wrong and so awesome.
Vivian broke my heart. I don't like her being that sad.
This show is really good at creating intrigue and then wrapping it up quickly and sufficiently enough that you feel satisfied at the end but still want to keep going. If only ABC would let it keep going. *whimper*
* Did anyone see the promo for ABC's new show True Beauty? If so, can anyone adequately explain to me how shit like that gets to be on tv while Pushing Daisies gets shoved off? Fucking hell. Television is really becoming a wasteland.
