I agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly but I'd be careful about who I said that to because people could throw the whole having a beer with Bush back at you. Oh identity politics, you is a tricky thing!

Well, I think the whole Lewinsky thing probably made that sort of thing appropriate but it's still kinda icky to think about...Wow, that's something I hadn't thought about in a long time. God, weren't we so complacent 9-10 years ago? I blame Lee Atwater for everything. Seriously, I saw a PBS Frontline documentary about that guy last evening and we should be really glad that guy is not around anymore. Not to be glad of someone's death but he did bad things and is ultimately, in my view, responsible for where this country is politically.

Oh, wow, I'd completely blocked out Lewinsky-gate. Hello, irony. It still pisses me off when people bring that up (not you, but people who mention it as a weapon against Clinton and Democrats in general). Especially now, when we've been given a fantastic example of a genuinely corrupt president. Not that we didn't have that before (I'm looking at you, Nixon), but Bush's war-mongering and sleight of hand is much more immediate. Of course, people only see what they want to (including myself), but Bush and cohorts have done so much more to bring this country down than a little Oval Office penis fun time (that should have remained in the private sphere). I completely echo your good riddance over Lee Atwater.
