3,500 miles away, what would you change if you could?

[As always, spoilers abound....]

You know what? Sometimes it's good to go in with sub par expectations, and tonight's episode proved why. The last few episodes left me disheartened with the series, once again. But this re-ignited things. Dark and intense and fucked up. YES. It almost felt like S1 again.

"Not anymore." Do you think Locke was answering Sawyer's question of whether or not he was a cripple or addressing the beginning of the question specifically, i.e. "Is it true..."? Or both? Because I like the idea of Locke wanting to re-script his own life story. With Daddy gone, his past no longer has to be true. Or false, for that matter. It can just be in the past. Forgotten. Is it true? No, it's no longer true. I like that he admitted he's on his own, because... yeah, he kind of always was, or was at least meant to be.

Well, Locke is fucked up just like the rest of him. And I love the bald-headed bastard.

Speaking of bastards, of the uber-creepy, truly bastardy variety: Ben continues to be fucked-up love. He is just awful and slimy and captivating. And the pagan undertones are interesting. Ben seems to be channeling Lord Summerisle in a way. *dopey grin*

And just so you don't think I'm non-discriminate when it comes to bastards... Jack's growing evilness? Does nothing for me. Still bored with him. No, not bored... moving on to irritated.

Evi may be hot, but Kate's stupidity is not. First, she voluntarily chooses to leave Sawyer's tent? I mean, come on! Then, OF COURSE, she tattles to Jack. Old habits, indeed.

Speaking of Sawyer. HI. I am a puddle.

Other than the Locke-Sawyer interaction and the Ben-Locke interaction, which were all phenomenal, Sawyer's story coming to a somewhat predictable yet devastating and satisfying conclusion provided the high point of the night for me. Just... the letter... and the slow sinking into realization. It was violent and horrible and, really, not gratifying for him, which rendered it real and even more horrible. The anguish in Sawyer's whole body and, most especially, in his voice as he strangled Real Sawyer... that killed me. Josh brought it, IMHO.

Now what is he going to do? With his revenge played out, who will he be? Ah, it's the stuff fics are made of. :)

And his feetses. Owie.

Return to Black Rock! And that weird, quirky, brief encounter with Rousseau. Cool.

Oh, yeah, and there was some stuff about the Naomi chick and a freighter ship or somesuch and. I dunno. Desmond and Sayid and Charlie were there, with Jin and Hurley. And that's all that matters. Sayid touched Charlie's arm and they're so gonna have sex now. Umm.

Actually, I think Sawyer's gonna need some good, distracting sexing when he gets back to camp. And Kate? Your rights to his pants have been revoked. The rest of the castaways, please feel free to form a queue.

ETA: Is this the first confirmation we have of Sawyer's hometown? Jasper, Alabama. I don't remember whether it's come up before.

ION: My Kill Rock Stars order of Elliott Smith's New Moon arrived today. See? There's a reason to order directly from the record label: you get releases a week early. The packaging looks lovely and... well, blue. And there are notes in from Elliott's friends and fellow musicians Sean Croghan and Sam Coomes and Rebecca Gates, as well as from his producer/Jackpot studios buddy Larry Crane. And it's going to be hard reading those... harder still listening to the music. Looking over the track listing, I recognize at least half of the songs by title, but it'll be bittersweet and strange and really damn difficult to tackle this. Might save that for tomorrow. Besides, I want to listen the first time through on vinyl (I bought both the LP and cd versions), and it's getting rather late to play records.

It's not that I'm procrastinating. I would never do that.

lost, elliott smith
