oh you silly, stupid past-time of mine

Oct 18, 2005 05:33

It's definitely autumn: crisp air, crackling leaves, the inability to select outfits properly because the weather goes from freezing to mild back to freezing in the course of a day and the office temperature does the same. Oh well, I can wear my fuzzy monkey socks again. Little joys.

I have my plane ticket to Georgia, to which I'll be returning to visit Rosie during the first week of November! :) Yet I've been very mopey and blah lately. I don't know what's wrong with me... it feels like latent teen angst ("latent" being the operative word). The problem with these moods is I retreat more and more, which just makes me feel worse--more isolated, more lonely. Own worst enemy, indeed. Which is why I'm forcing myself to update my journal now (for which I must apologize). So, in lieu of anything substantive, I bring fluff:

* ruidoso pimped this in her LJ, and I just have to pass it along for all the cat people around here.
Why being into cats is essentially the same as being into psychotic tweakers.

* WXPN's 885 all-time greatest albums countdown finished today. I'm actually rather surprised though not displeased by the number one slot.

3 - PINK FLOYD - Dark Side Of The Moon
2 - THE BEATLES - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
1 - THE BEATLES - Abbey Road

(entire list here if you're bored/curious)

Despite the brilliant multi-part epic ending of Abbey Road, it strikes me as an odd selection among the Beatles' material. I'd probably replace it with Revolver myself, being the springboard into their experimental period while maintaining a rich sense of melody. (I'm a melody whore, what can I say?) I would also put Highway 61 Revisited higher. And Springsteen would be right out. Highly overrated, that man. It's not a bad list, but... well, these things are subjective. I've never been all that good at hierarchy. *squishes all her favorite albums together in a big commie love fest*

Speaking of music, I've practically got Extraordinary Machine glued to my ears. Fiona just owns me. I don't care about the "Criminal" video fuss from years ago, don't care about her adolescent silliness at the MTV VMAs that one year... this woman can SING, and write music that tears through everything. It's clever and visceral, and that's not an easy balance to manage. I miss a few of the phrasings and arrangements from the early, web-leaked version of the album (particularly her ferocious attack of "what wasted unconditional love"), but I'm starting to feel this official release is ultimately the superior rendition... if I care to be hierarchical like that. ;) Plus, the dvd content... GUH. First, a ridiculous video for "Not About Love" featuring Zack Galifianakis lip-synching. Then live footage from the infamous Largo with not only the genius Jon Brion, but also Nickel Creek! *musicgasm* Fiona seems so fragile, and yet so fierce. I guess those two aspects actually go together quite well.

* And:

Soo sweepy. *grabs crotch and puts him to bed*

Every man needs a pink shirt.

Maggie and her brother. OMD, he's almost prettier than Boone, uh, Ian! *has very morally corrupt slashy thoughts* Well, if there's Woodcest.... *goes to hell*

Hi. Boobies.

Hi.

Shiny.

Naveen with his castmates from Easy. He was naked in that, you know. *grins grinnily*

Aww. Now give Dom a turn, Barbara.

And these were taken at the Decemberists show I attended the other week:

Duel! [insert Princess Bride reference here]

Colin falls!

But lives to rule another day! Mooha!

Until he's eaten by a whale!

Jenny plays a heartfelt lament.

But lo! He is risen!

Behold! Colin ascends to the great balcony in the sky... err club. (I might be somewhere in there, but I really can't tell.)

And just some random pretteh:

Yeah, seekrit pic. *folds arms across chest* Deal with the old school Monalilly.

Billy's feeling dejected, but I'm sure Dom will make up for it later.

Or maybe he'll be distracted by another Scottish beauty.

Or maybe he'll slip into his mama's heels and some eyeliner and join Eddie for some relaxed and groovy fun.

Then again, plain old scruff is nice.

And one more because he was feeling neglected, and I sometimes pine for old school!Dom.

*licks his shoulder*
