So later in the day on Tuesday, I made my resume searchable on sites like Monster, Dice and HotJobs. Starting bright and early the next day, my phone has been ringing off the hook and hasn't stopped, as I've fielded over 20 calls from recruiters and received a few more e-mails. Not all of them are going to lead very far, but I look at it as a good sign with the job market in engineering.
So far, though, a few real positives have come:
- I have two phone screens scheduled, one of them tomorrow morning, both for jobs with real potential.
- It looks like location won't be a problem, even though the north suburbs of Boston typically have more business than south suburbs, where I am.
- Money-wise, I'll be fine - looks like getting a bump in pay is likely even if I don't snag a senior position.
The outlook is good, and I haven't even made my most aggressive pursuit yet - that's coming, as I have a few professional contacts to leverage, and a new one to make at a key possible company. But this is promising - back in 2003, I was lucky if I got 20 calls and e-mails in a month!
