It is a sign of three things...
i) that I rarely wear a tie
ii) that I have increased in collar size; and
iii) that I seem to have a disproportionately large neck (in circumference at least)
... that I discovered yesterday that I don't actually own any shirts that I can button all the way up comfortably. I own lots of shirts that fit perfectly well, but since I never have cause to do up the top button, I didn't realise until yesterday that I actually can't any more.
Since it occurred to me that you never know when you're going to need to go to a job interview or a funeral or a wedding, I thought I'd better buy some shirts in a larger size. I'm not about to spend money on bespoke shirts (because I'm not rich enough / have better things to spend that kind of money on), but I was able to take advantage of a Charles Tyrwhitt sale to buy £400-odd worth of shirts for about £140. Fingers crossed that they're ok. I suspect they may be a bit baggy in every other measurement, but that's probably ok in shirts.
