I need help.

I'm trying lace for the first time (from Knitty's Branching Out pattern). I'm a bit confused. When you get to a yo from the last row are you supposed to drop it or knit into it? Cause I'm ending up with the wrong number of stitches. :(

I'm looking at the pattern and there isn't a yo as the last st in ANY of the rows.

So which row are you having problems with?

Are you remembering to put the purl rows between the lace rows?

Sorry, I probably worded that weird. I mean the yo's that are in the middle of the rows. When I get to them on the next row am I supposed to drop them or purl with them? I'm on the second row of the pattern.

Purlewe makes a good point, that there are purl rows between the lace-patterned ones. I would also point out that the number of stitches varies between rows, so if you're comparing rows instead of comparing the number of stitches available to the number of stitches you need for the row you're starting, that may be your problem.

But the whole point of a YO is to increase the number of stitches, so you should treat it as a stitch (and, in this case, purl into it).

Okay, that's what I needed to know. Thanks. :)

I think my problem is the only time I've done a yo (and I didn't even know that's what I was doing) was for a drop stitch scarf.

Yes, what Froglady says. purl those YOs as if they were a regular sts.

In lace knitting you are doing alot of decreasing and increasing.. decreasing with ssk and k2tog (and other versions) and increasing with yos. you treat all of these sts just the same when you purl back.

good luck.
