This Season is a Dud

I'm not jumping for joy over any of the new shows I've seen. My plan was to wait for them to premiere and guess who would be here next year and who would get cancelled. (I want to point out my near perfect prediction for last season.)

The problem with this season is they had few shows that interested me. Out of those shows only 2 (Fringe and My Own Worst Enemy) do I think are worth watching weekly. I had such hiiiigh hopes I had hiiiigh hopes. I had high apple pie in the skyyyyy hopes. Uh, sorry, don't know where that came from. I thought I'd love Eleventh Hour. I love Rufus Sewell, but not his show. It's too heavy, but not dark. It's hard to really explain. The original is much better. Three Saturdays ago tomorrow (heh) BBC America did a a mini-marathon of Eleventh Hour. It was good. I enjoyed seeing Patrick Stewart on tv again. It made me wonder why they hadn't hired him for our version. It's not like the man doesn't come with built in viewership for at least the first 2 episodes of anything. Speaking of better originals, I can't bring myself to watch Life On Mars. If it's as good as the pilot or the original, which was EXCELLENT, please let me know. Replacing Colm Meany with Harvey Keitel is like using a Q-tip for a tampon(I dunno where I come up with them so don't ask), extremely ineffective. The Mentalist was alright. It's a rather uninteresting version of Profiler if you ask me. If given half the chance, I'd rather watch Profiler in syndication than first runs of The Mentalist. I love me some Simon Baker. I'd like a good bare ass shot. 8u798u7 Oops! Sorry, I was cleaning drool off my keyboard.

What has this chick been watching? I'm glad you asked.

You already know the answer, Asian tv. For some time now I've been thoroughly convinced that Hollyweird needs to stop stealing Brit shows and try some Asian ones. I just finished a 10 episode series called Ame to Yume no Ato ni. Roughly translates to Ame in a Dream. Ame means rain, but it is also the name of the lead character, a middle school girl, who lives with her father. The show explores the bonds and boundaries of family. Ame's dad collects butterflies and on an excursion in Taiwan, he fell into a hole. The next thing he remembers is being home without any recollection of how he got there. It's not a big spoiler to tell you guys that he's a ghost. The story is really about his love for his daughter and his wanting to keep the secret of his death away from her. It was touching and sometimes funny. The a scene where the dad, Tomoharu, proves to his best friend, George, that he's dead brought tears to my eyes. In most of the episodes Ame and Tomoharu help other ghost fulfill their final wish to pass on. I thought that a show with that concept might work for a few seasons here.

I've just started watching Tokyo Ghost Trip. I'm not sure what the hell it's about, but so far I like it, lol. Three brothers from a family of spiritualists are sent from the family to help people. I don't know how many people or ghosts they have to help until they can go home, but 2 of the 3 don't want to be bothered. Unbeknownst to them one of the brothers is being stalked by a guy in a robe. I'm also watching Wish To See You Again, a romantic comedy, Antique Bakery (a comedy with one main character known as the Gay of Demonic Powers, at least he was in the anime), Oh! My Girl! (precocioius spoiled child star vs. single barely works uncle), and Midnight Rain, a medical drama set in a private hospital that comes w/o the requisite sweet character, the surgeons are money grubbing assholes aka real.

If you find yourself bored, I'd say check out one of my favorites: The Devil (Korea - revenge drama), A Million Stars Falling From the Sky (Japan - thriller type drama), Ame to Yume (Japan - family drama), or Absolute Boyfriend (Japan - comedy), or Tatta Hitotsu no Koi (Japan - romantic drama).
