After a bit of a ::headdesk:: day in the office, I decided to give the JCC Gym a whirl. They had sent me guest passes with the info packet I requested.
Hopped on the elliptical machine. Now, I have been leery of the elliptical since I fell off of one at Gold's Gym circa 2000. But I got the swing of it pretty quickly. Went for a solid 30 minutes while listening to my iPod and watching CNN with subtitles (hopefully, Fred Thompson will be able to beat the cancer). I had a lot of fun moving to the beat of the songs I was listening to (thank you, Gwen Stefani ft. Omarion; thank you Outkast; thank you Gnarls Barkley; I could go on), no matter how silly I must have looked. After I finished on the elliptical, I did a 24 minute circuit of the strength training machines. I felt so great during and after the workouts.
I was REALLY happy with the gym. Even though it was smaller than a franchise gym, I didn't have to wait for a machine at all. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. WhenI was confused by the tricep machine, one of the staff members came over and showed me how to do it without me even having to ask for help. I really appreciated that.
While I don't qualify for the young professional membership (I meet the age requirement, but I overshoot the income one and you have to hit both), there was a 20% discount for a year committment, which essentially took the cost down to what I had assumed the year-long, up front YP membership would have been. So, given that I liked the machines and the atmosphere and that I'm really excited avout the
class schedule, I signed on the dotted line. I may consider doing a
fitness evaluation. Except they might weigh me. I saw a scale at the gym and I almost got on it, but I decided it would be the best to ignore it for now. I know I'm making progress--I don't need the irrational funk that will surely occur when I find out I don't weigh 130 pounds (I'm guessing I'm at about 160 now, and I don't care what my final weight is as long as I feel good).
The
Eagles Schedule is out. Only ONE Monday game??? However, there are three Sunday games, and I supposed the NFL is now making that the marquee game of the week. I love Monday Night Football, however, and I'm more used to that being the spotlight on the schedule. It's the Skins, and I so wish it was here in DC, because I would pay mad money to go to that.
After I burst into tears at 8:49 p.m. during the finale, I state strongly that Friday Night Lights better get renewed. Thanks to this show, I realized that this year's football withdrawal has not been nearly as acute. Oh, and the non-football stuff is good too. ;)
Ok, I'm going to do some overdue stretching and brace myself for some Idol results.
